This is a bit premature since the new codex is not out yet but apparently 40k radio have their hands on a new SM codex and one item caught my attention:
"a descendant chapter cannot use their parent chapter special character"
and
Q: In 5th Edition you were encouraged to use SCs as "Count-As" special characters to give you some new/interesting combinations. Is there anything in the new book that allows you to do this?
A: You can no longer do that due to Chapter Tactics.
How would you guys interpret this in terms of "home-brewed" chapters? For example: my SM chapter is themed around "the hidden descendants of the Black Templars", I call them the Crusaders, I use BT icons but a green/white/black paint-scheme. It seems that under the new rules I wouldn't be allowed to use Grimaldus or Hellbrecht or the Emperor's Champion for that matter, not even "counts-as" since that's also not allowed apparently... If that's true it kinda blows... What am I gonna do? Repaint everything to BTs?
It seems to really hinder the creativity and freedom that made SMs fun to build as an army.
What do you guys think?
