I'm a huge Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead fan (seen both at least 6 times) so it's no surprise I watched this as well, got to say it's amazing one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time (just as good if not better than Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead and those films already raised the

bar real high) and is probably my favourite film for 2013 atm.

That's good to hear, might actually go to the cinema to see it instead of waiting for the DVD like normal

I second it being an awesome film. I think, of the three that Hot Fuzz is still my favourite; but it's still a fantastic film!

Glad to hear it, as movies released in late August/early September tend to be when the studios take their trash out, and advertising that consists of entirely praise for the past deeds of those involved is a second alarm that went off.

Huh, see I didn't think it was funny at all.

There were a few funny moments ("there's no point arguing with you" for example) but overall it was more of a depressing drama... Then the end was really fething weird.

What was depressing about it? I found despite all the tragic things happening (which is where comedy often comes from) the film felt surprisingly upbeat in tone which is unsurprising for a comedy film (although it still had a few serious moments).

The main character is a suicidal alcoholic and drug addict who is desperately trying to recapture his youth despite all his childhood friends living successful lives.

Fair enough, btw are you into dark comedy?

I'm a fan of violent and dark comedies but The Worlds End came across as far too tragic to amuse me, perhaps because the main character greatly reminded me of myself in many respects...

Alright, I guess I wasn't too bothered by the main character as he isn't that much like me (although I do enjoy drugs and alcohol I don't consume it that often) nor do I care that much for nostalgia.

I kinda thought it'd be better split into two films, one standard pegg and frost comedy about an alien invasion ala shaun of the dead and another more serious tragic film about a depressed alcoholic recapturing his youth...

I liked it. I thought it was right there with the first two films. All starting kind of slow before building up to a great climax.

One thing I noticed is that it seems like they split up the "useless slacker" roles over all three films. Both of them were kind of useless bums in the first movie, Nick was the slacker in the second one, and Pegg was the slacker in this one.

Another British Comedy classic in my book, and if you liked the first two I think you will like this one.

I love these guys style of making a film

they stated that they really try and make the other actors laugh uncontrollably, most of it winds up being just off the top of their head

they admire Bill Murray and love Anchorman

the king of off the top of his head, this whole movie was a lot of a on the fly

Yeah, the beginning for me was mostly chuckles as well but once that first fight scene happens with the robots the movie was full of real belly laughs after that.

So this seems to have been and gone in the UK and is now doing the business in the States?

I remember seeing Pegg on the TV about a month ago then a few posters but I've heard no one here talk about it?

I used to drink in the World End in Camden about 15 years ago, lots of Americans there for some reason? An insight to the US psyche or a coincidence - only the robots will ever know?

The most delicious part of this is - the *actual* World's End pub in Camden (the only one I know of with that name) didn't have anything to do with the film. Filming largely took place in Letchworth, about 30-35 miles north (which in the UK isn't "just up the road") and the pubs were all Letchworth pubs with mocked up fronts to give them different names.

Amusingly, one of the pubs is renaming itself after what it was called in the film.

It sounds to me like personal experience is clouding your judgement - kind of how I wouldn't necessarily expect a 'Nam vet to enjoy Tropic Thunder. A pity, but I disagree and think that having the character have that kind of depth makes him more relatable. Rather than purely being a source of humour, it makes us care more than we would for "average protagonist" and gives us more involvement in the plot as a result.

A great film, with the odd bit of critique about British pubs.

The tragic main character did linger a bit too long after watching this film, which was odd. They did make him a bit too tragiic, IMHO.

As an insightful comedy, and as a survival end-of-the-world movie, brilliant.

There's also The World's End on High St in Edinburgh.

So recently watch Shaun of the Dead again. Didn't really care for it almost a decade ago when I watched it and thought maybe it was the circumstances. Nope, didn't care for it much now. It's kinda meh.

Hot Fuzz on the other hand is and was BRILLIANT!

I also enjoyed Paul a ton though I don't know how much they had to do with that other than the acting and haven't seen Run Fat Boy, Run.

That said the previews look genius and I intend to try and get to the theatre to see this one.

Run Fat Boy Run is more of a rom com but still funny

Paul is very, very americanised... It's not really on the same level as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz.

Run fat boy run, on the other hand, is pretty good but definitely a romcom.

What's wrong with romcoms? What do we have to label everything and fight over it? Can't we just snuggle on the sofa and watch a romcom for once like a normal bunch of blokes?

Yeah, I'm not usually into romcoms but I enjoyed Bridesmaids I was surprised at how raunchy the humour was in that movie which is why I appreciated it.
