I was just wandering where the good people of Dakka go to find inspiration for all the great conversions and models you see on here?

Thanks

Obviously, the P&M forums and gallery are a great inspiration. I find the WIP stuff there as inspirational as the final pieces, as so many of the techniques are easier to follow when you can see them from start to end, and seem far more achievable that way.

For other sources of inspiration, I look to both official and fan-made 40k artwork, picking something and taking certain elements from it for my next project. Fluff can also be good, BL novels or codex stuff.

Also, sometimes an idea will strike me just staring into the depths of the bitz box, seeing a certain combination of parts or a piece I forgot about has launched many a conversion. The other inspiring force behind all my conversions is the idea of having something unique. I have converted versions of all the UM characters, most of the BA ones, and a few SW and DA ones, simply because I prefer having a model, particularly for HQs, that is 'mine' as it were. In most cases, I have no problems with the stock GW models, but I enjoy the challenge of making something individual.

Sometimes, artwork, other people's conversions etc. Mostly it just hits me out of the blue, usually when I'm looking over the GW website. If I want to make a units from a different army work for me, I just comb through my bitz box and think about what I have that can make them look like they belong in my army.
