So I decided to give Dipping a try and started without doing much research. I ended up with the regular wood stain and not the polyshade variety.so basically its been 24 hours and the model is still tacky and hasn't dried. Has anyone had this problem before or have any advice about it?

I've seen some impressive videos using dipping shade - but that requires shaking the excess shade off.




I'm guessing you are trying to dip the mini to apply a base coat rather than shade though. That shouldn't be too different from the Army Painter video above though.

I'd consult the drying time (or time till second coat) on the paint can.
If that has passed without the paint being dry, my guess is that you left too much paint on the mini and it takes much longer to dry for that reason.

Well I used the Minwax route and used the regular wood stain rather than the polyshade which includes a stain and sealer in one. We dont have a game store within 70+ miles that I could get the army painter shade.

I am not sure how long it would take the regular stain to dry on a non-porous model.

I use the minwax polyshades on my nids - a bit messy, but works great, looks awesome and gives them a great alien goo look...

That is what everyone else says. im just wondering if I need to hit it with a sealer to finish it off

More than likely. I would do a test mini (take some spure, paint it, put the stain on it, then seal it.

I have to say, if you have another batch to do, I highly recommend the polyshades....works great and gives a nice protective coating as well in one step.
