Hey there,always nice to see new people. Bear in mind wh40k can be expensive. Best bet is;

Tau codex
Tau empire force
Fireblade

That gives you the book, 3 crisis suits, 2 units of 6 firewarriors (basic troops) a pirhana, stealth suits and the fireblade gives you a HQ. That not only gives you a nice starting point but also introduces you to all types of units. Vehicles, jump infantry, infiltrate, deep strike, markerlights the basics of tau.

If you do decide to go this route I can give you a hand with the list

As for now welcome again if you need any help feel free to ask

Ok, if you could help me along with this that would be great, I know 40k can be expensive but I think what you listed is my best bet - along with the help from the people at GW, please help me along with this list!

I don't have the codex on me but I'l just smack down the template.

Cadre Fireblade 60 pts

3x Crisis Suits 198 pts
6x Drones

7x man FW Squad 70 pts
7x Bonding Knives

5x Man FW Squad 50 pts
5x Bonding Knives

3x Stealth Suits 80 pts
Fusion Blaster

358 points

I usually don't use Piranhas and forgot the point cost so yeah... You also have 2 more gun drones

who you playing mainly? i know it's a bit advanced but you could always magnetise or partially attach your weapons to switch out

and i don't enitirely agree with that list feas :S

HQ-
Ethereal - 50

Elites-
3 x Crisis - 66
depends on what you're gonna be playing against, feasible's idea of plasma's is a good one, if you know your gonna be playing against a few armies only then we can specialise it more, i'd also go for 2 x plasma as opposed to twin-link (rerolls) but that's just me . _ .

Twin linked plasma - 20
2 x plasma - 30 (expensive yes but if you have points to spend)

3 x stealth team - 90
fusion - 5

troops -
6 x firewarriors - 54
6 x firewarriors - 54

Fast attack -
Piranhas - 40
disruption pod - 15
2 x seeker - 16

in total that comes to 480;
(2 x plasma rifles chosen for cost)

can even upgrade the piranha to have a fusion blaster for 10 points taking it to 490 or go fireblade for 490 (500 with fusion blaster piranha)

basically sit your ethereal in one unit of firewarriors with the other close by (12" is the furthest a model should be from your ethereal) i know i said fireblade but. . . its a personal call, i like the ethereal now. ..

its a matter of playing and finding out how you play (heck i run a farsight enclave, all crisis suits and enjoy getting point blank in peoples faces, flamers, burst cannons etc. so by all means discount parts of my advice if you wish but i will say i can reason any/all of my ideas if you would like them)

wall of text end - sorry when i get tired i just type and forget lengths etc

Why did you tell him to get a Cadre Fireblade but then not use it, and instead use an Ethereal. It makes no sense.....

One idea would be to get the Codex, Battleforce and another box of Fire warriors then convert one of the FW to a FB.

Then you can run

FB

FW x 12

Fw x 9

Crisit Suit x 1 w/ 2 x FB

Crisis Suit x 2 w/ 2 x PR (You will be one short at this point, but that should be fine)

Stealth Suits x 3

Comes in at 495 points, so you can add a 5 point upgrade to 1 of the suits.

This way you will get the rull benefit of the FB, giving you a full 24 shots at 30 inches, with the FB split firing the Markerlight for any suites that need it.

Plus 6 FWs don't go far at any point level, even 500, and you need all your stuff shooting not hiding!
