Hey guys I'm getting the Skaven from the Island of Blood Box... but I also like a lot of the OOP old metal Skaven that are up on ebay/etc sometimes. I found one old Skaven model in my bitz box and it's TINY! ...have the sizes changed at all? Will the really old models look silly next to the new ones?
Thanks!

Yes the skaven gutter runners are tinier than you might think (smaller than normal clanrats even). They need a serious re-vamp in models but it'd still cost an ungodly amount.
I dunno about the size of most things though. I know a lot of previous models are smaller.
I can't say what my opinion is of weapons teams outside of the island of blood or outside of the doom flayer (old weapons teams in other words), jezzails or poisoned wind globadiers but plague censer bearers are at the very least uglier. If i'm not mistaken the old screaming bell was also much smaller than the current one. The old warp lightning cannon was more like a 'looking glass' and it wasn't held up high by a bunch of supports.
Skaven have quite a few models that are showing their age and ugliness. It feels like even master painters that paint for GW's army books can't even make those old sculpts look good.

Skaven are a ragtag army so everything goes together well enough.
As for size the older models are a little larger and lacking detail in comparison to the new sculpts.
Personal taste is really the key.
IMO some of the old models are horrendous especially when compared to the new stuff.
I like the metal gutter runners. Not so much the plastic night runners..
I wouldn't touch the old bells or lightning cannon with the new ones being so incredibly good looking.
Metal plague monks look good but are highly limited in poses. The plastic are not great but they are acceptable
I'm hoping and dreading when they do the new Skaven book that they will redo the plague monks.
The first round of plague censers are good, second are ok.
Metal rat ogres were good but limited poses. Plastic ones can be good but require a bit of work with posing and green stuff filling.
But all in all the skaven are still my favorite army looks and fluff wise. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and the new doomwheel and abomination are incredible.

Dissent is not disloyalty.
Everyone is a genius, but if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree it will spend its whole life thinking it is stupid.

Oh wait just to be clear, did you mean to say the older models were a little bit smaller?

The original skaven from the 80s sculpted by Jes Goodwin are pretty much in scale with the modern kits. The ones from the 90s were slightly bigger. In practice, you can mix and match quite happily. My army consists of modern IOB clanrats, old Heroquest skaven (quite big and chunky), the very old 'warhammer regiments' models, a few 90's era things like metal plague monks and a bunch of old Jes Goodwin characters and weapon teams. Mostly they look fine together, although the size differences are most obvious with rat ogres - the 80's ones are much smaller than the modern ones.
