Having play tested a recently posted list of wraiths on here I found what seems to be two shortfalls. One minor and one major. The minor is that I lack any type of pie plate weaponry. Something I thought could be resolved with multiple scatter lasers, and although they have done very well, I still have the urge for a template. The second is a mobility issue, As wraiths are slow. I thought I'd solved this with three spirit seers all running the iyanden primary power 'voice of twilight' giving them all battlefocus. However, as tough as wraiths are, they lack a touch of survivability whilst moving across the table, especially against decent AP armies such as Tau. So I have titivated a 2000 point list, and would greatly appreciate some comments. To put you roughly in the picture, I have had to sacrifice 4 wraith guard, a wraith lord with two SL's, a single spirit seer and The Avatar. It's given me points for 3 gravs. But I'd like opinions.

Ok here goes;

HQ

Farseer
Spear of teuthlas 115 Pts

2 sSirit seers 140 Pts

2 Warlocks 70 Pts

Troops

6 Wraith guard 192 Pts

5 Wraith guard with D scythes
Wave serpent, SL's and holo fields 345 Pts

5 Wraith blades with Ghost axes and force shields
Wave serpent, SL's and holo fields 295 Pts

Fast attack

Crimson hunter Exarch 180 Pts

Heavy support

Wraith knight 2 x SL's 280 Pts

Wraith knight 240 Pts

Fire prism with holo fields 140 Pts

Total 1997 Pts

I considered dropping a wraith guard out if the six man squad to upgrade all the tanks catapults to cannons. That's the only singular change at the minutes. Like I said though, any suggestions welcome.

Quick question:

What are the two warlocks going to do since they can't join any of the units in your list. Leaving the two of them together as a council seems hardly useful?

On the list itself:

- Drop the scatter lasers on the Wraithknight. Since he can only fire two weapons, these are just wasted points.
- Drop the two warlocks.
- Drop one of the wraithguard in your 6 man squad.

This gives you 145 points to spend, which you can use for a third Wave serpent.

Well, one warlock was going to run with the wraith blades. As a spirit seer is pointless as they can't battle focus as they don't shoot. He does however give them a chance at an improved armour save or other good runes of battle bonus'. The other warlock was going to sit with the Farseer in the wraith guard guys. HOWEVER, having just re read the codex, I have learnt that the warlocks can't join wraith units (D'oh!) so that was my bad, and I'll attempt to adjust now. Is an extra wave serpent the way you would go? Or something else to sit with the Farseer as he dooms the world?

As for the SL's on the wraith knight, they've been pretty useful so far, having the option to fire as anti tank or anti infantry, but I do see your point...

I could drop the SL's and a wraith and take 2 more warlocks and build my own little seer council for the Farseer? Thoughts?

Or drop all 4 warlocks and take Yriel in the wraith blades

Using points takin out from warlocks, scatter lasers, and one wraith.... Yes a wave serpent is helpfull. Very helpfull. In fact I almost 100% encourage it.

Why does one knight have 2 SL and the other none? I'd spread the LL around between them.

Do what they say and drop the SL from the knight, the warlocks, and the extra man and add a 3rd serpent, you could always use a nightspinner instead of the fire prism if you want a pie plate

I dropped the SL's, and the extra guy, but I took 2 more warlocks and built myself a seer council. Was surprisingly tough boosting my army from the middle of the field. And stripped down WK's were awesome. I stopped messing around with pure shooting and decided to use them as a full on assault team with the two serpents as fire support. Was almost unstoppable! One WK munched 520 points of riptides. He had no answers.
