In my attempt to repaint most of my old Space Marines, I have been working with washes for the first time in, well, ever. At the time I painted most of my minis (1987-1992), I didn't really care much about washes.
"Prime, basecoat, detail, table-ready" was my strategy. So now I'm working with washes for the first time. I was hoping for a subtle deepen

My primary color for my Chapter is Castellan Green. Easy enough to remember, right?

My first attempt at using a wash was with GW's Athonian Camoshade. It doesn't seem to make the Castellan Green any richer. In fact I don't see any shading with it at all. If there's any subtle shading to it, I'm at a loss to see it.

My second attempt at using a wash was using one of my own manufacture. I used Americana Ebony Black mixed 1:1 with dish soap and watered down about 10 parts water to 1 part of the paint/dish soap mix. This seemed to work better as the black paint settled in the creases and I could see shadows where I wanted them.

So is a darker green like Castellan Green going to require a black wash for shading or is there some other way I can use the Athonian Camoshade to give it a deeper look? I have other minis where the green shading will work nicely (it looks lovely on Death World Forest) but for my base color it looks invisible.
