Hello everyone, I first of all want to thank you guys for helping me decide on going with a Drop Pod army instead of a Mechanized list. Now with the new Space Marines just around the corner and me being the indesiscive individual that I am I have compiled a list of the following potential Space Marine Chapters that I am contemplayting doing:

-Black Dragons: http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/6/6c/Black_Dragons_Space_Marine.jpg

-Howling Griffons: http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/File:Veteran_Sergeant_Parthus-Night_World_Battle_Livery.jpg

-Raptors: http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/6/6f/Brother_Manasai_Mark_VI.jpg

-Raven Guard: http://images.wikia.com/warhammer40k/images/b/ba/RG_Assault_Astartes.jpg

-Fire Drakes: (Homemade) Still trying to decide the color scheme but the fluff would be a successor of the Salamander Chapter that is smaller then other Space Marine Chapters. Their Combat Doctrine is that they specialize in is Drop Pod Assault or "Tip of the Spear" mentality that utilize a large number of Flame and Melta weapons much like the Fire Lords and Salamanders. Also being a smaller chapter they are made up of alot of veterans to explaing the heavy numbers of "Sternguard" in my army.

Now with the chapters I am debating listed i want to turn my attention to the rumored "Chapter Tactics" that have been announced. From what I have gathered here are the following that I know about (courtesy of Belloflostsouls) please let me know if I either messed up or forgot something!:

-Ultramarines: Can re-roll rolls of 1 with Tac Marines but any other model in the army can re-roll any failed roll to hit.
-Ravenguard: Universal Stealth Rule, better assault marines.
-Salamanders: TL-Flamed Weapons
-Imperial Fists: Bolter Drill (and it apparently affects Sternguard Ammo)

Now all of the above I could see having uses in a Sternguard heavy Drop Pod Army for many different reasons. Basically I am asking you guys what Chapter you think would be best represented by a Drop Pod Sternguard force and out of the listed Chapter Tactics you think would be the best on to incorperate into a Drop Pod Army. Am hoping this thread will be a nice hotbed of Space Marine players who are also interested in a Drop Pod list, thanks again for reading guys and posting!

It will depend on your list. I play a drop pod list, which is extremely fun and rewarding, by the way, and the core of it is three tactical squads. With that in mind I'm going straight for UM tactical doctrine.

You see, that doctrine isn't quite how you described it. It actually makes ALL weapons in tactical squads twin-linked and every other unit gets to re-roll 1s when shooting. That's why I think that trait is the winner in this new book.

The bad news is that the latest update from 40K Radio claims that Bolter Drill does not affect special ammo, which is disappointing if true. But if you wanted to use Imperial Fists doctrine and use lots of Sternguard you could use a Pedro count-as model. He can make Sternguard scoring.

The Salamander trait could also work well. Pods are obviously in range to cause havoc with template weapons, especially now we can use the 6" disembarkation move. When it comes to Sternguard, you can load them with combi-weapons and give them a heavy flamer for tons of re-rolls. Just bear in mind that though Sternguard are getting cheaper combi-weapons are getting more expensive.

Here's a detailed list of Chapter traits (first spoiler-tagged part): http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/543907.page

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

I'm thinking IF/CF would be good, because you get the re-rolls on one with all bolt weapons (not special ammo though) in all phases (the Ultramarine one is actually a once-per-game ability), and can take Kantor to make sternguard scoring. Sallies could also be good with the TL flamers on the drop being a nasty proposition. Those two would probably be the ones to go for, barring more info coming out (I think the thread in N&R has all the info in the first post now)

With the updated leak I can see both UM and IF doing well (I already run both :p).

With UM I'd get at least 3 pods of tacticals down turn 1... or as many sternguard as you can. With sternguard I'd activate Devastator doctrine and let backfield Devastators support my drop. Then turn 2/3 bring in tactical squads and activate Tactical doctrine.

With IF its a little more straight forward and consistent, but only if your tangling with vehicles do I see it being better.

Now if you have tons of xenos players, drop Sallies might be worth trying out.
