Hey all, just looked at the IG 'dex and decided to give it a try. Then I saw Sabre Platforms, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

HQs:

CCS (Vox) - 55

CCS (Vox) - 55

Elites:

Marbo - 65

Troops:

X2 PCS (Vox) - 70

X4 Infantry Squads - 200

X10 [X3 Sabre Platforms (All Lascannons)] - 1500

ADL - 50

That's right folks, 30 Lascannon Sabre Platforms. Competitive? Silly?

Is a sabre platform a fortification?

Nope, it's basically a T7 W2 Heavy weapons team with Skyfire.

I've thought about running a list like this. It seems like a gimmick. Hordes should beat it pretty easily.

Drop the Vox network. It only works if BOTH squads have a vox. It won't help issue orders to the Sabres.

You'll need more than just Marbo to take care of enemy units that the sabres can't draw LOS to. I would suggest Basilisk artillery carriages because they synergize well with sabres and over load that target type.

The list, isn't competitive in any definition of the word . HOWEVER it sounds like crazy fun and I want to point out that the title made me laugh SO hard. Keep the lists up

X7 [X3 Lascannon Sabres] - 1050

X3 Basilisks (Camo Netting) - 465

Only 21 Sabres, but some heavier hitting Artillery for those pesky camping units.

No no, not Basilisks, earthshaker guns. The ones that are actually artillery (the unit type), so you have even more T7 guardsmen for your opponent to hate. And with the points you save you can buy more Sabres.

You're still screwed against a horde though.

X24 Lascannon Sabres - 1150

X3 Earthasker Batteries (Camo Netting) - 315

ADL - 50

This leaves me with 10 points. My local group runs mech and elite armies, with the only exception being 1 Tau gunline, so hordes won't really be a problem.

I love armies like this.

Best way to deal with them, refuse to play against them unless they have the offical forgeworld sabre platforms.

That way you win by K.Oing their wallet.

If somone was willing to pay for 24 official models i would be more than happy to throw my army into that amount of cheese.

Why do Space Wolf players always cry cheeze first and then run away? I wouldn't refuse to play someone with any obviously fun hearted list. In fact, I would try to bring a list that you designed it to fight, which I imagine is mech heavy. In 2000 I can get like 3 Battlewagons of Boyz covered by an ADL and a KFF Big Mek. Then have Snikrot slip into your back line with like 3 Bike Bosses or 2 and an allied Pain Boss, basically force you to choose between the BWs and the Warbosses.

If my opponent goes first, I get a 4+ cover save against the first round of shooting. Better if it is Night Fighting. Nothing sucks worse than having a Battlewagon blowed up before it can get its Boyz at least 13" closer to the enemy.

Then again, who would run all those things in a TAC list? This list is mainly made for taking down lists like Tau Gunlines, Mechdar, and possibly FMC Spam. I'd like to see 3 Daemon Princes try to get near my Sabre platforms.....

Anyone got any suggestions for the list itself? I still feel its a bit... Naked? (I guess )

Ok, we're getting there. I suggest a few more changes. 1st get your self some sky cannons.

Drop 3 squads of Sabres taking you down to... 15 Platforms.

Now get 3 Vendettas with those points. You'll have ~60 points left. With that get a Sabre back and make it 8 squads of 2 Platforms each.

Drop 1 CCS. You'll have 70 pts. left. Use it to get 12 flamers on the PCS s and the CCS. Put them in your new Vendettas. With the remaining 10 points... Well profit.

With that you would have
CCS w/ Flamers
2x PCS w/ Flamers
4x Infantry Squads
8x 2 Sabers (16 total)
3x Vendettas (9 more Lascannons for a total of 25)
3x Earthshakers

Edit: and Marbo. But I would suggest dropping him and getting two Commisars (one for each Platoon)
