Quick question about who can strike during close combat after some casualties have been removed. Situation as follows after unit of 6 Dragon Princes charge a horde of Saurus with a couple Scar Vets-

S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
S.SV.S.S.S.SV.S.S.S.S.S.
DP.DP.DP.DP.DP.DP.

Now, the DP's kill off a number of Saurus, then lose 4 of their number from the Scar Vets. So-

S.S.S.S.S.
S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.S.
S.S.SV.S.S.S.S.SV.S.S.S.S.
DP.DP.DP

My question is: can the Saurus that used to be in base-to-base with the DP's that have since been removed as casualties roll an attack? (I.e. those on the outer files of the horde.) From what I see in BRB, you can only strike at something in BtB contact when its your turn to go. My opponent claimed that they can strike since they were BtB at the start of the round of CC.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Your correct, You can only strike at models that are in base to base during your Int step. If models was removed during the same int step, they will still get a attack.

You still have to maximise though - so those DPs would shift along a model so that the maximum number remain in combat.

You only maximise when moving, however the removal of a single file of models follows a set pattern - from either end, not just one end

Does it? Wlll have to read that again - I had thought it was just removal must keep maximm number in combat. Mind giving me the page for that?

Page 45, 3rd para, 3rd sentence. "If the unit is deployed in a single rank...."

Its also one of the seemingly few things NOT to have changed in the move to 8th edition....

Can't a character "Make Way" to get into the fight, or is that only for moving from rank 2 to rank 1. Thought it worked in general.

Make Way is done at the start of combat before impact hits.
