So some of you have to be watching. I skimmed the off topic and didn't see anything. So I'm starting this to get some discussion going.
I'll start off with this topic. In Confessions, Jesse final realizes (partially) how much Walt has fethed him over, and its insane. But the whole time all I can think is that Jesse still doesn't know that Walt let Jane choke on her own puke, which basically was the catalyst for Jesse's decent into self loathing. I can't help but wonder if that ball is gonna drop.
Thoughts? Expectations?

I figured Hanks house/garage would have been up in flames when they got back from that restaraunt meeting. All the evidence, poof. Plus the expertly done confession dvd to put the matter to a close.
I read somewhere that the actress that plays Skyler actually gets real life threats because her character was unlikeable for the better part of the series. I think this season is great because she is no longer a victim, and is taking charge.
I hope Jesse dies, personally. Ever since the first "Hey yo, Mr. White" from the first season and all of his boneheaded behavior throughout the series he's been a liability. Now he's a potentially violent liability.
Curious to see how Todd and the neo-nazis fall into this.

Yeah, I thought it was sort of a lame article. She essentially blames misogyny on the fact she played an unlikable character. The fact she's getting RL threats is ridiculous, though.
My character, to judge from the popularity of Web sites and Facebook pages devoted to hating her, has become a flash point for many people’s feelings about strong, nonsubmissive, ill-treated women.
laughable.

I dunno, I always liked Jesse .. I was kinda disappointed in Walt over the cigarette thing.
My favorite part this whole season was the star trek story. It felt like I was back at GenCon...

Awesome TV. Just finished episode eleven of season 5. Thought it was a bit of a stretch that Jesse figured out the whole ricin cigarette thing because Goodman's lackey lifted his dope. However, the DVD confession was one of Breaking Bad's great moments with the medical bill reveal the final twist of the knife.
I still struggle to sell this show to my friends. I usually get as far as saying, "It's about this chemistry teacher with cancer who starts cooking meth to pay his medical bills..." and then they switch off.

It's natural to root for the protagonist even if he's the bad guy. Part of his appeal is that he started off as this down trodden lowly paid teacher and has since managed to stand up to and defeat the worst elements of the meth underworld.

I miss Gus, he was probably my favorite character in the whole show. Every time I see him in something else now, he's always Gus to me. He's "Mean Gus" on Revolution, or "Cellmate Gus" in Trading Places. I saw that the other day and was like "WTF!! That's Gus, only he's 20!" ... I think he probably had one of he best death scenes ever too.

He lost me when he got into the "Empire Business". Before that, it was all for his family or to protect his family, so I was on his side.
Now I root for him for the sake of possible redemption.

Love the show.
The final season has had its ups and downs. First episode was amazing, i found the next to be "meh" (necessary plotline wise, but slow). Last week's was another high point, this week's... a bit of a trough.
Last night's episodes (no spoilers), was kind of all over the place. For a show with such excellent flow, this one seemed jumbled and getting in it's own way.
I'm trusting they'll end in a big way, and at least satisfactorily wrap everything up. If i didn't know this was the final season, i'd say this was one of the weaker seasons of the show thus far.
Then again, the whole of each season with this show is always bigger than the sum of it's parts.

Me too. I think everyone assumes it's Jessie walt is going to sic them on.

Looks like Pinkman is going to die soon, or Schraeder. I've got to be honest, just about every character right now is starting to piss me off. Pinkman's erratic behavior and the fact that he's just a liability pretty much all the time. Walter is contemptible for a lot of reasons - he has been since the beginning of this season. Skyler I've hated since pretty much the first season, Marie I've wanted to die since the first minute of her appearance, and Schraeder has always been a pain in the ass with his arrogance and rudeness since episode 1.
Yep, pretty much the only guy I can stand right now is Saul Goodman. I was pretty pissed when he got an ass-beating from Jessie on Sunday. He is a think-tank, not a brawler. Leave him alone, please. :(

I agree, and I think that's why they put that scene in there.
It shows the extent of how much the situation is degenerating.

A few things from this week:
1- Like NEL, I was a bit surprised at Skylar's ruthlessness. It wasn't totally out of character for her, but it's clear that she's at that point that Walt was in Season 1 or 2 where he had finally "broken bad."
2- I continue to be simultaneously amazed and perplexed by Walt's loyalty to Jesse. I mean, Pinkman is a feth up of the highest order, but Walt, until last night, has refused to "send him to Belize." While Walt was certainly playing Jesse with the hug heard round the world in Episode 2, I think it's pretty clear that he does have a real affection for the Jesse.
3- Todd is a sociopath for sure, so it's going to be real interesting to see what happens next week. Jesse said he'd hit Walt "where he really lives" but I'm just not convinced Jesse has it in him to kill anyone, not now. But Todd... man, that dude is nuts.
Gonna be an exciting ride for sure. The interesting thing out of all of it is that we know Walt survives. So who else is going to be collateral damage? Truth be told, I almost want his whole family to bite it so he can become the countries biggest Meth kingpin without any restraint or hesitation.

Jesse represents Walt's redemption. Remember, Walt was a school-teachers, Jesse is like his pupil, a child-like figure, whom Walt can patronise - but whom he often respects. He's come up with some good ideas, and has been on this journey with Walt, understands him, even understands his cancer. Walt has to believe there's redemption for Jesse, else there's none for him. yes, he also knows that by letting Jane die - the moment at which he became truly evil - he condemned Jesse.
I'm interested by how, after hating Hank, then sympathising with him, I'm coming to hate him again. AS for Walt, like others I'm sure, I am revolted by him, and identify with him, too.
We're going to see a lot more damage, I guess I want Walt Jr and Jesse to emerge, but I don't expect a happy outcome. Saul will survive, though - he'll have the spin-off series.

Well, if anything, I would point misogyny at the writers more than the viewers. They simply made her an unlikable character.
Which brings up an interesting (If not uncomfortable) point--why is it that a majority of TV series end up with a Skylar character? As male viewers--do we not realize we are actually misogynistic--or are a majority of drama writers misogynistic---or? (Skylar, Lori/Andrea from Walking Dead as two current examples). Just thinking out loud, as during a given TV series I get vested in--I usually find a female character written badly.

I see her point.
There's much more awful characters that don't get nearly as much hate as Skylar. Tuco comes immediately to mind. More to her point, had she simply submitted to Walt's plan it is possible that she would be more popular.

Skyler is disliked because she is an irremovable impediment. Tucco was a criminal, you expected him to be in the way. And then die. Gustavo was a criminal, you expected him to be in the way. Then die.
Skyler is in the way for a lot of the series, running contrary to Walt's wishes. But we know he won't killer her. making us hate her for not getting on board and not being able to be dealt with (via plot armor).

Re Hank, me too. For instance, his manipulating jesse in the most cynical way is fascinating. He hates Walt far more than he does other criminals, because of the damage done to his own ego.
Hank always patronised Walt - to know that Walt fooled him is unbearable. Hank has progressed from being obnoxious, to one of the most moral people in the cast, so it's intriguing to see his dark side mapped out.
Fafnir wrote:As far as Skyler is concerned, as unlikeable as she can be at times, she's certainly understandable.
Actually, i hated skyler because she was scripted to be unimaginative and irritating; she insisted Walt get the chemo, and spend loads of money despite his wishes, because she's conventional and couldn't really accommodate his argument. Then she became a stronger figure; now she's both strong and compromised. The argument between her and her sister is simply tribal now. And what's fascinating is that Hank claims to hate Walt because he endangered Skyler - but Skyler will, it seems, become the object of Hank's hatred, too.

The end shootout was ridiculous.
How is everyone missing so badly? We have like 8 guys with ARs and experience with guns, against two professionally trained DEA agents who have a lot of experience with their babies (probably customized pistolas). No one's capping each other and they were firing for like 30 seconds.
Oh well, I'm sure in the beginning of the next episode, someone will die.
