What do you think of this list? I feel pretty confident in it but I'm wondering what other options I might have, especially in the Heavy Support department.

CCS w/ x3 Plasma Gun, Chimera

Veteran w/ x3 Plasma Gun, Chimera
Veteran w/ x3 Meltagun, Chimera

This is a rather different than normal mech guard, but It seems to decent. Seems low on models though which guard is usually not great when their armies have low number of models.

I have a fairly small group I play with and so I don't have too much experience with many different army types, but I feel like 12 vehicles, two of which are flyers and three AV 14, will be a lot for many armies to handle.

Not crazy about putting the exterminator with the vanquishers. I would remove it and give the other two vet squads chimeras and get an astropath for one of the CCS.

I'm using two FOCs, so the tanks are all separate squads. Otherwise yeah, I'd definitely agree with you.

Part of me almost feels I'm going into TFG territory by taking 6 heavy support, lol.

Well you could make it even worse :
CCS with 4 flamers each
CCS with 4 flamers each
Veteran with 3 melta
Veteran with 3 melta
Veteran with 3 melta in chimera
Veteran with 3 melta in chimera
Manticore
Manticore
Manticore
Manticore
Manticore
Manticore

Imagine between 6 and 18 S10 large blasts a turn !!!!
And 3 Vendetta for AA
you keep one of the squads in reserve, others are in chimera or vendetta....

Its not very common from what Ive even seen on this site so I wouldnt say its "TFG" also with eldar and tau being top tier lists they have plenty of lances for eldar and tau has plenty of high strength ap1-2 weapons. The AV14 will be difficult for them but otherwise The artillery and chimeras are rather easy to pop,

What is your general strategy with the list?

I see two problems here, there is a lot of anti-vehicle, and not a lot of anti-medium infantry. 3 melta-gun squads, 2 vanquishers and 2 vendettas seems like overkill to me. I'd either replace the melta squads with plasma, or replace the vanquishers with executioners or maybe take some basilisks. That'll make the list more of a TAC list.

I think the original list is pretty well balanced, although fast based lists with bikes will probably put a hurt on the list. The manticore list is "TFG"list.

Keep in mind that the Vanquishers each have Plasma Cannons, four of those is nearly as good as one Executioner with Sponsons.

I actually did have two Demolishers and an Executioner as my Leman Russes before I revised my list, but really, I have plenty of AP 2 already and I'm not losing too much anti infantry with the two Vanquishers and the Exterminator.

But, the beauty of Leman Russes is they are very easy to switch their weapons around. I definitely have no problems with changing them up a bit to suit different armies.

It comes down to specializing your russes. My point isn't that vanquishers aren't as good, it's that why have a vanquisher, and melta vets, and vendettas. All of them are good at killing vehicles, and MC's, but not necessarily good for killing say, a tactical squad or a blob of necrons (although I do note that you have an exterminator for those 4+ saves, which I wholly support).

The thing that your list lacks is mid-long range marine killers. Those 3+ saves can and have been the death of many armies, and it's a pity to not have one of the many options for AP3 pie plates that the guard have. I always lean towards taking the nice AP 3 or better weapons like basilisks, colossus LRBT (to many's chagrine), and good ol' fashion plasma vets. Maybe a good solution would be to replace one or both of the footslogging melta-vets with plasma-vets. Realistically not a whole lot will come within the range of footslogging melta-vets, and even less to get the benefits of melta.

Pretty good stuff to keep in mind. Also, I probably should have mentioned this in the OP, but the Vets without a Chimera are in the Vendettas. Range (hopefully) won't be an issue for them

Ironically, my main opponent is usually a speed freaks Orks guy. I use a smaller version of this list (I'm building up), and well...Let's say he doesn't win often. I'm not sure if it's him as a player, or what.
