Fluffwise, could a Sentinel walk sideways? Trying to stat one up with the new Dark Heresy beta, and was curious about it.

In theory, they could keep the 'head' facing forward and rotate the legs to move sideways. It doesn't look like it could turn a full 90 degrees, but maybe 60 or so, moving diagonally without changing facing. No idea if that helps or not.

Yes but poorly. The Elysian one is better articulate for that kind of movement. However you could simply pivot the feet the way you want to go and rotate the "torso" to face the 90 degs. to line of travel to get a very smooth sideways motion.

The real question is: Can they moonwalk?

Digigrade legs, so, no.

Since they're almost identical, design-wise, to the Star Wars AT-ST, the "hips" (where the legs join the body) aren't designed to permit reverse walking... though, you could just pivot the legs around and walk them "forward" while the boxy head remains pointed in the original path of travel to lay down fire while withdrawing... just make sure to check your rear-view mirrors frequently.

I have to ask: why would a sentinal want to walk sideways?

Traverse fire across a target, such as a ridge-line of massed infantry, a trench-network, the wall of a fortification, etc.

Psienesis nailed it. As for them being Digigrade, would still be same effect, different narrative. Moving backwards and focusing on a battle in front of you is going to take as much if not more concentration that going sideways, so even if the legs are moving the same speed, I can at least lower the speed rating to reflect that.

I know they can jump (Cadian blood has them jumping out of zombie hoards, but they can't do it a lot, stresses the hydraulics). as for movement other then forwards I think they are similar to that of a tank but the "turret" (head) can only turn 90 degrees left or right.
as for walking backwards (not moon walk, but proper reverse) they can do it, it keeps their front armor towards the enemy (at least if they are the armored kind anyways)
