I've heard a lot of rumors over the development, cancellation, or impossibility of a Prototype 3. Perhaps some fellow dakkanauts can shed some light on this.
Prototype is one of my favorite series. I'm curious towards it's future.

Based on the massive flop (And crap) game the previous was, highly doubtful.

Prototype has always had crap story and characters. It's also always had some of the coolest animations and best gameplay in the hundreds of next gen action games I've played. I'm sorry but the insurmountable waist high walls and wonky controls of Mass Effect, the boring shooting of Halo, or the lack of real power in Infamous are serious turn offs.
Yahtzee and nearly all reviewers who aren't paid to market love Prototype 2.
The Prototype series has good games. That's it.

On June 28, 2012, Activision announced that despite the "substantial investment", the game "did not find a broad commercial audience", and as a result, developer Radical would encounter layoffs and the studio would be reduced to a supporting role towards other Activision projects.

Probably because, like all sequals in this day and age, they didn't bother trying to improve on the original game, just repeated it with a new story.
How many people would have bought Prototype 2 if they'd have made the side quests more immersive, and cleaned up the controller a little? But no. Just more of the same.
