Hello DakkaDakka!
A friend of mine who's getting out of the hobby recently gave me a small necron army he made a few years ago until he gets back into the game, and I'm just wondering how they work when allied with csm, things along why people use them, what they bring from necrons, and how they usually play the lists.
He gave me:
About 30 Warriors
9 bases of Scarabs
A C'Tan Shard
2 Wraiths, old school models, not yet finished, but I'm sure the old models won't really bother most people
Necron lord/overlord, res sphere, some weapon I'm not sure of.
5 Destroyers, 1 armless but there's both a heavy destroyer arm and a normal destroyer arm available
1 destroyer lord, res orb, some kindof spear thing.

Would anything here really be able to add something to a CSM army that they don't currently have?
I have so much to work on that I don't know if I'd really want to buy anything more, since most of my CSM are still unpainted/still having mutation/spikeystuff added to them daily, but I'd probably be willing to get a few transports if need be. I only run 1 heldrake, so would adding in Doomscythes be a bad idea because I don't have enough flier saturation for them to survive as transports?

Any batreps people know of would be nice as well!

Well, not really. A playable Necron detachment would be Overlord with CCB, 2x 5 Necrons mounted in Night Scythes, and Doom Scythe (or Annihilation Barge).

I don't think 3 Fliers are the best way to run Necrons as an allied detachment.

I would run:

Overlord on CCB w/ Warscythe (180)
RC of VeilTek, 2x StormTek, 2x VanillaTek (160)
Unit of 10 Warriors in Scythe w/ RC Lord (SW RO) (310)

Totals at 650

CCB shoots round Sweeping things.
RC teleports around just removing units from the board.
Warriors airdrop in front of something and kill it (works very well if you can angle it for a turn 3 drop behind an ADL)

Necron allies for Jy2 and for the CSM player in the newest game.

As Far as what you have don't think there is much there that will help.

The big advantage of Necron allies is the ability to take small units in flyers for very good objective grabbing which is something CSM lacks. But you need the flyers.

With magnets, can doom scythes and nightscythes be swapped back and forth between them? How about the annihilation barge and command barge?

And are Destroyers, Wraiths, and Scarabs just not good, or is it just that they aren't what CSM needs?

Also, I understand the use of the Veiltek, but why the mix of storm teks and vanillateks? Wouldn't specializing the unit be better, since the AP3 from staff of light would be redundant with heldrakes?

ok, 3 questions need 3 answers.

Dooms/Nights & Annis/CCBs are interchangeable anyway.

Necron FAs are all good, but I don't think CSM needs them much.

And mixing the vanillas and Storms is just a TAC option. 2 Storms will kill anything in the game with an AV, while 2 vanillas will put a dent in anything MEQ, so the two of them together will kill almost anything with a lot of S5 fire + the AP1 temnplate.

using this unit as I have, I just hop about the table hit-and-run style, killing quite a bit.

There will be a battlereport eventually showcasing it's usage against my usual opponent on youtube

Do you play straight up necrons, not as an allied detachment, Ihatenids? I definitely think I'd like to try something along the lines of what you had, since it wouldn't be that much to get that for rounding out things.
