Hello, I used to play Dark Angels, so I know the fluff and most of the rules/composition. I have to start from scratch, so I want to start with a heavily modified/detailed command squad, expand to some terminators and go on from there.

Spoiler:
Modeling questions/input:
I want to make an Azrael model, working mostly from forgeworlds Legion Praetors (the one in power armor) I like the pose. I want to change his head to the Lion Helm, ravenwing commander Caliban sword. I'll fill in detail and make him a cloak with green stuff. Input?
What should I do with the other character? Make a Belial? if so, can I leave him with a plasma gun and just add chapter details? I also want to make a very nice Interrogator Chaplain. I love the Lugft Huron model. I want to use the lion shoulder to tie into a Lion'El theme for my HQ units. The lightning claw is just so incredible looking. I want to cut off Lugft's gun and attach a Wing shield I'll cut a notch in the sword design to fit in with Deathwing icons. How do I justify a lightning claw with a shield? Can I have his lightning claw hold a wepon? (thunder hammer or Crozius)

Army Composition, aiming for 1500 pts.:
I want Azrael, Int. Chaplain, maybe a librarian, techmarine,a standard bearer with Devastation and maybe Belial.
Can I have them join a unit of Deathwing knights? Can I have a mixed unit of shooty termies and knights? Or, should I have a unit of each?
I want at least 2 10 man tacticals (or 4, 5 mans) maybe have 2 rocket launchers to help with stubborn units.
A land raider crusader
and with the extra points, maybe a dark shroud. Drop pods/rhino? What would you suggest be good to get?

The general strat I'm aiming for is to Deepstrike into vital areas. Have the Devastation standard bearers squad in the land raider and turn those into Slavo for some good infantry mowing down-ness (i know theres a debate on what the Devastation standard affects). Then unload the squad to deal with the enemy HQ or have techmarine or smite try to take out enemy vehicles. Even when I used to play, it was mostly for the modeling, now I want to make it as strategic as possible.

[EDIT]

Belial
Command squad, all with melta guns, bolters, in a drop pod and maybe banner of devastation. ( My idea here is to drop them behind a tank or extremely important target, melta everything down within range and sweep on their army from behind (denying objectives along the way))
4x 5 man tactical squads w/ 3 plasma cannons or missles
Deathwing terminators deepstriking
Deathwing knights with Belial, deepstriking the enemy HQ
Aegis Defense line with the devastators taking cover in
and a rhino
I will take the only troops without a missle launcher straight to the command squad. After they've done what they need to, the rhino will take all 10 where ever they need to be.

The only think might worry about is that I dont have fast attack, hopefully I dont play an especially large map/table.

Check out all of the new dark angel bits before you begin. There are plent of good stuff in the new term box as well as the black knight box.

For sheilds look at the knights shields. they are awesome.

Yea, I'll buy some boxes first and see what extra bits i have before I get too carried away with modding.

Also, I updated my first post with a strategy.

Drop these

Deathwing storm bolter unit
Belial

Ravenwing command squad with standard of devastation
how are you getting this? to get this you must have a HQ choice on a bike, my suggestion is just take 5 marines in a LRC with a banner

What is the LRC for?
I like the dark talons they seem good for only a 160 points(minus the range) on your flight stand your literrly going to be like 16 inches away.

only 20 marines kinda ehhs me. id add more of those and max out that DWK squad to 10 just to keep it

ah okay, i was trying to go for a balance, but survivability might be more important.

Should I group my tact squads or drop pod them in?

If you really want to use lrc with the sod I would use 3 lrc 2 rw squads with no upgrades and a dw command squad with the banner. Put a Libby in terminator armor with a pfg in with the command squad in the center lrc belial with a squad to one sideand a tech marine on the other side with a squad. That's 6 hurricane bolters firing salvo. Also if you keep the lrc within 3" of eachother they will all have a 4++

I played a couple of games this week with some units I just got and some borrowed units from a friend. I want to go for a completely different strategy. I noticed I had hard time holding objectives.

I watched a couple of batrep videos online, and it gave me some ideas.
I dont know if I should start a new thread, but here's a new build I think I like.

Belial
Command squad, all with melta guns, bolters, in a drop pod and maybe banner of devastation. ( My idea here is to drop them behind a tank or extremely important target, melta everything down within range and sweep on their army from behind (denying objectives along the way))

Belial is too expensive for what he does. Id drop him for Azrael. Much better buy. 3 LRC is the way to go with thebanner.

I like that there's no chance of belial scattering. Azrael is awesome but I feel like his 4++ to his unit goes to waste on a unit with all storm shields (maybe I can put him with shooty termies)

3x lrc is a lot of firepower, but it would be over half my army. I'd do it on a 2k+ army. What should I replace the banner with? Librarian?

Keep the banner and fix the core of the army if you want pods if suggest x4 tactical in pods melta guns n such add some bikes an maybe deathwing knights that way you benefit greatly from the banner round 2 you can salvo 160 bolter shots into someone ouch! Normal terminators are too pricey for what the do if you run the all pods make sure you have some fast units to compliment it

Hmmm I like the sound of that, just raining down on them. Only problem is that I'm pretty sure I have to have half my army on the table to begin with (reserves?) I could still have them in a bunch of rhinos and mass in the middle of the table?

A full ravenwing list using the banner as a core is pretty awesome (sadly I don't have the models for a full ravenwing force) .... I started using tri-raider since the hurricane bolters turn into salvo 2/4 - 12 twin-linked shots per sponsor.

Librarian (Bolt Pistol & Force Sword, Divination) – 65 {Attached to the Company Command Squad}
Techmarine (Space Marine Bike, Power Field Generator) - 115
Company Command Squad (5 Veterans with Boltguns, Standard of Devastation – 165 {Deployed in the Land Raider Crusader}

Tactical Squad (Sergeant with Bolter, 9 Space Marines with Bolters) – 140
Tactical Squad (Sergeant with Bolter, 9 Space Marines with Bolters) – 140

Land Raider Crusader (Deathwing Vehicle, Multi-Melta) – 290
Land Raider Crusader (Deathwing Vehicle, Multi-Melta) – 290
Land Raider Crusader (Deathwing Vehicle, Multi-Melta) – 290

= 1495 - for higher points games add in 3 man squads of ravenwing with 2 melta guns to scout move for anti-tank and more troops to sit on objectives.

Imo works wonders, 152+ bolter shot b/t the 3 land raiders and 2 tactical squads (72 of them twin-linked) - 4+ inuv save on the land raiders with the techmarine trailing behind on a bike & the banner + warlord stays inside their Land Raider the entire game.

The banner is amazing, I started this edition playing pure deathwing and swapped over to a mix due to salvo bolters. I originally started off with 1 land raider and the command squad bunkered inside, using x4 10 man tactical squads (plasma & missile launcher), 2 on objectives and 2 flanking the land raider.

Deathwing Knights also work well with 1-2 land raiders to knock down anything that could be getting into charge range of the raiders (with the one turn smite mode they can be amazing).

That's a pretty hard hitting list. I'm liking the 3x lrc more.

I love Deathwing and I want to field them, but the more I'm thinking about it, the more a think I shouldn't have them in my list. They're expensive and arent the hardest hitting melee wise (except for the one time smite). I think I'd rather go for raw numbers (men and shots fired)

How are ravenwing in assault? Hit and Run is nice if something important comes up that needs immediate attention, but how often is it used?

Nope. according to the FAQ, if the PFG is inside a vehicle, it only effects the models inside that vehicle. It would not effect the vehicles/squads around, and not even the vehicle that it is riding in.

If a have a person with a PFG on a bike riding close behind, I get the save. If that model is also a techmarine then I'd be able to repair the tanks too!

I'm thinking I should go for a ravenwing army, with the 3 lrc's. I might need to field sammael so I could have scoring units, instead of the standard troops. I dont have my codex on me, but hopefully I can have black knights be the troops, and de-buff the enemy with rad grenades. I'm worried about melee oppenents though, like tyranids/blood angels/etc.

ya you can take a techmarine on a bike with one .... keep him behind the middle land raider and keep him turned sideways to get rather range on the 3" ..... its doable and outside getting hit by barrage / helldrakes / doomscythes / some deep striking units nothing should really get LOS on him.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
and he still has a 2+ armor and 4+ inuv save with T5 on the bike (not bad since he should be LOS blocked too).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
DWV is a must if your taking raiders with the banner ... being able to make your opponent reroll an explode is well worth 30 points.

Haha! just as simple as turning him sideways, thats good, it'll piss off a lot of people.

I'm not familiar with DWV, whats that?
EDIT:
oh deathwing vehicle upgrade, i forgot it could do that. damn, thats a pretty unstoppable force.
