Seems very likely the tyranids will be getting that codex by the end of the year, and considering the emphasis on flyers in 6th by GW it seems unavoidable that they will finally release a harpy model. Presently the harpy inspires ... less then excitement for its cost. So looking forward and back as well lets see what people think might happen to the harpy.
Since they have release so many dual model kits I think this is somewhat likely for the harpy, but I think the variances will not be for a different creature like the mawloc/trigon. Instead I think the harpy will have 3 distinct roles that it will be designed to play based on a specific biomorph that you purchase, much like the hive tyrant can take wings, armored shell, or thorax swarm. These different biomorphs will have largely different body mods to go along with them. I think they might end up looking something like this
1) Strafing Death - A modification that makes the rear legs have large forward curving talons and a tail that with large scything blades, like that on a stone-crusher carnifex. This biomorph will allow the harpy to gain one additional hit (so 1d3+2) when vector strike and any strikes against vehicles will roll 2d6 for penetration instead of d6.
2) Interceptor - A different head, some bits that are to be added along the wings and spine as "heightened sensors" and two big guns (something like the hive guard gun) that replace the stranglethorn cannons. Model will have interceptor rule. Guns will be 30 inches, str 8, pen 4+, heavy 2 (although probably listed as assault) and the ability to ignore jinx.
3)Suppresser - Large blisters will be placed along the underside of the model on both sides of the centerline replacing the spore mine cysts normally available. Each turn the harpy will be able to place a D3 large blast markers over any unit it has overflown. The blasts will have the barrage and ignore cover rule, Str 5, AP 4+, and cause any unit wounded to take all leadership tests at -2 until the start of the controlling player's next turn.
Thank for the read and have fun with this!
