Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

CCS: The OOTF is very situational, relying on the enemy to bring reserves, and can actually be a negative, as he can delay your enemy's fliers, allowing them to come in after your vendetta and shoot it down without being hit first. The bodyguards re also a complete waste of points now that you can just LOS wounds to other members of the squad. For a CCS, you either want to load up on melta/plasma and shove them in a chimera, or keep them back with a Lascannon and Regimental Standard, where their main focus is giving orders to the rest of the army.

For the infantry, I'd use them as 2 seperate platoons so you can take another PCS for more orders and SW slots. Mortars are ok for the PCS, but I'd say the best setup for them is 4 flamers, deploy them behind the line and use them for counter-attacking anything that breaks the line.

For the infantry themselves, your loadout is confused, as the MB imply you are expecting to fight MCs or vehicles in CC, but the autocannons imply you intend to sit back and shoot. Also, the Lascannon is generally a better alternative to the AC, so if you can make points then that's the way to go, and you should also have a special weapon of some kind in there, either a melta or flamer depending on whether you face vehicles or infantry.

The HWT are generally poor units, with T3, poor Ld and the ability to be ID by S6+ (which then causes them to test Ld and they have a good chance of running off the board) meaning you are really just giving away free KP here. Heavy weapons should be in infantry squads, veterans, command squads, but never on their own. Mortars are also never going to contribute the same amount as equal points in infantry are. I'd seriously consider dropping these altogether.

For 100 points your vets should have 3 meltas, not 2, and really need a chimera unless you plan on putting them in the vendetta, which is not something I'd recommend. You also need at least 3+ chimeras to help them survive, so you'll need to get another squad the same and consider loading the CCS with special weapons as well.

The medusas are ok, although for AT I'd rather have a kitted-uot vanquisher as it is more survivable, I'd advise you not to use BB shells, as the loss of large blast is not worth the trade-off in my opinion.
Basilisk is good.
Hydra is good if you face a lot of skimmers or more fliers than the Vendetta can handle, otherwise there are better choice.

Hope that helps, if you want I can post a similar list based on the same style that might be a bit better.

I cant see any platoon command squads in there ?

Also so I would get LRBT in there in place of the Medusa as they have the AV 14 front and sides in most cases.

id have to disagree with the heavy weapons. put them in cover go to ground then get back in the fight. Tends to work well for me. motor squads are underrated IMO, i like taking them and puting them out of LOS.

Of course i like to run my infantry squads more mobile than most gaurd players and try to toss commisars in each squad.

usually works for me

Automatically Appended Next Post:
OF course i run creed and kell (in a command Chimera) with my gaurd and foot slog everything.

You spent 300 out of 1500 points on mortars. IOW, you're playing a 1200 point list.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

i only take one squad of motors then las cannons and missle launchers.

Again it works for ME.

I find it interesting that you put heavy weapons in your infantry squads and also gave them melta bombs. I usually only take melta bombs if I plan on running a squad straight at the enemy, and I usually don't move squads with heavy weapons so it seems counter-intuitive to me.

Also I am not sure I like how you have loaded things up since you are giving no heavy weapons to your command squads who have higher balistic skill and can utilized weapons better. I would suggest maybe adding a lascannon to both the CCS and the PCS.

Do you know how you would like to play the infantry platoon? 5 small squads? 1 huge blob? Depending on that it might be worth the investment in a second CCS to dole out orders and really increase the power of those infantry squads.

Ditto to everything said above.

On top of this, I find Medusas to be horribly inefficient. They can't fire indirectly, and their range can't compare to the rest of the artillery. These two combined mean it has to be visible and close to be useful, and since it's 12 10 10 open topped, I'd be surprised if it lasts over a turn.

Drop the medusas, grab Vanquishers if you want AT, grab Basilisks if you want more pie plates, grab Executioner if you want that sweet AP2.

If you have to use the mortars (say because you have no other units), Toss them behind your troops, since they can fire indirectly, and throw a Lord Comissar within 12" of all of them, probably attached to one of the further back units. This won't stop the instant death, but will keep them from running away after one base dies.
