Outer Space, Apparently

Hey all! Had a really cool idea with a friend yesterday, thought Dakka might want to see it.

Last night, my friend an I came up with a roleplay type game that puts two humble soldiers of a larger army together to battle against masses of "the common enemy". It will focus on fierce firefights where unlikely alliances are formed and orders from high command are denied.

The game rulebook which I am currently designing will contain a scenario where a Scouting Salamander space marine finds an observing Eldar soldier. The two takes arms together against an uprising necron threat on the planet, fighting through multiple battlefields against alternating waves of enemy troops.

The game plans to be customisable, even within the set scenario. players choose one of the two factions, before picking between 4 classes of soldier that each bring unique abilities, rules and wargear to the game. Ranging from an Eldar Pathfinder or Warlock to a Space Marine Apothecary or Devestator, each class will hopefully bring a different edge to completing the dangerous task set out by you and your new (and unexpected) ally.

On the field players can interact with the world in a far more complicated way than the standard game. There will be a new twist to the cover system, along with the ability to "obtain" new weapons, equipment, and interactions including trying to crack codes to doors, activating strange artefacts, and truly heroic actions.

The game system will be mainly based on a system I devised called "action points". These are split up in any combination by the player to move, shoot, assault, perform combat manueveres and interact with in game objects. A series of "thresholds" uniquely numbered for each class limit how many action points can be spent on an action (to stop someone from using them all running, for example).

These are just ideas that I've written down (isn't is amazing what two people can do in a couple of hours ), but I post for a couple of reasons. Firstly, do you Dakkanauts believe that this "inquisitor similar" will work? And secondly, would you play this? Do you like the idea of pitting a single soldier from your army against unspeakable odds?

thank you for reading. Please reply with any comments, questions, criticism or ideas.
