Ok so, This one is slightly intressting. I'll deploy my skyshield in the middle of my deployment zone and drop the Riptide, the two prisms the broadsides and the 5 pathfinders ontop of the skyshield. It all fits ontop of there without making it entirely into template heaven, however the benefits of the skyshield to the gunline setup are far more impressive then any potential downsides against template heavy weaponry. First off everything ontop of there gains a 4+ invunerable as long as i keep its walls up, and aslong as i have even 1 model ontop of it it can't be unfurled if i don't want to. Aslong as the sides are up, both fire prisms are at least 25% obscured and thus will get a 4+ cocver save that becomes a 3+ because of the holo fields, but more importantly they still get a 4+ invunerable save while ontop of it and almost everything i have ontop of here has enough range to cover most of the board with their fire power. Now the Farseer will join the riptide (8 wounds with a majority toughness of 6) with a 2+ armour save (again majority) and a 4+ invunerable save and roll Runes of Fate. If i get Fortune i will roll once more on Runes of fate to take Guide, if i get anything but fortune I will take guide and roll on divination twice so i will always pick up both guide and prescience and have a decent change at picking up scriers gaze aswell. The pathfinders will be joined by shadowsun and because the skyshield will give them a cover save aswell thats a 2+ cover save for my most vunerable but usefull unit and should they die shadowsun can jump over to either the broadsides or the riptide for more cover shenanigans. The three wave serpents willt ake advantage of their mobility and firepower to root out troop units and other things vunerable to S6/S7 spam with their mobility while I prioritize anything that can take out my more vunerable serpents with my gunline. The Firewarriors will be taking up in cover near either one of my own objectives or a good vantage point for their shooting range while the riptide and the Broadsides should be easily able to intercept anything comming up from reserves. That combined with the fire output of the serpents should be able to deal with most flyer threats.
That at least is the theory, My question then is, did i miss anything or should i be doing something diffrent to make this setup more effective.

Well, at least it sounds like a plan. I think the army would also work without the Landing Pad. Mobility can be key in some games.

Agreed, But I have actually considered that aswell. Except for the pathfinders and the broadsides which lets be honest, aren't going to BE very mobile. everything on there (Riptide, fire prisms, Farseer on jetbike and shadowsun) have jetpacks or other ways of ignoring terrain if they do need to abbandon ship off the landing pad. (And thus can get over the sides when its closed without having to move through cover) And as the surface counts as open ground I don't even need to make dangerous terrain tests when abbandoning ship.

I'm thinking that while serpents are good, you already have your scoring covered by your windriders (Best Objecitve grabbers to be found) so you are taking them for their fire power and survivability. But with the points you pay for that serpent plus DA tax there are better ways to spend those points. My suggestion is to drop a single Wave serpent and its DA's inside to give you 210pts of playtime. With that I would suggest you take an (extremely cheap IMHO) Vaul's wrath battery for 90pts. This gives you a very nice bunker for shadowsun to hide behind several t7 wounds with 2+ covers. Or you could drop the Farseers jetbike and hide in that unit (Even Heldrakes have problems with that many T7 4+ invul wounds) to secure your warlord. That costs 90pts for 3 large blast strength 6/7 rending hits, that's really good IMHO. With the 135pts left if you drop the jetbike. With that I would suggest merge one Windrider unit to a big 6 man with 2 cannons unit and take another 3 man unit for scoring duties, then add a warlock on jetbike with singing spear onto the big unit for conceal and a 3+ cover save to make the unit a legitimate threat, and who knows, you might roll protect for a 2+ armour save making you almost as survivable as terminators!

Hey alex, the problem that vauls wrath support batteries have is precision shots and templates. Blowing away their two guardian crewmen just makes them go away (If the guardians are dead you remove the battery as a casuallity). And thats exactly what those baleflamers do to them. Thats primarily the reason why no competitive list will ever field the vauls wrath batteries because they live and die by the graces of two guardians. Sure you roll against toughness 7 to wound them, but they are just to fragile to make much use off. (A baleflamer can be postioned to only hit the two crew members and thus they will be the casuallities as you cannot give the artillery battery a wound when its not under the template) So for me they don't do nearly as much as a wave serpent with a small unit of dire avengers does. In addition they will take up more space on the Landing platform whereas the serpents are there to provide mobile fire power to harass and pin units trying to advance to my gunline. If I were to replace it, the only unit that can fufill a simlair role in my army is a hemlock which is dedidedly less appealing.
The farseer has a jetbike because it gives him +1 toughness and a 3+ armor save, even if you attach him to a walking unit that jetbike is the best 15 points you can spend on him. In addition as an infantry character the jetbike the farseer is on can help him greatly to deny enemy objectives by moving 12+36+2d6 in a single turn. Especially usefull if you know that your next turn will be the last because of tournament time limits to battles. In addition hiding the farseer in the unit with the riptide lets it confer buffs that target the farseer and then apply to his unit to the riptide.
I would rather take 3 units of 3 jetbikes then a single unit of 6 any day. Take a look at the book, out of the 6 standrad missions 5 revolve about objectives and only ONE actually awards victory points for killing multiple troop units. Thats primarily the reason that in this edition you see so many small troops. The dire avenger tax as you call it is honestly an advntage because its 3 additional highly mobile scoring units, and their small size is only a factor if the wave serpent they are in is actually cracked open.
