hey guys, im planning to play deathwatch with some friends and I'm undecided if to play an assault marine or a librarian.

I'd prefer the librarian as I saw they are pretty much the same in hand-to-hand combat and the librarian has psykik powers, is this true they are equivalent in melee? Why should I play an assault then?
How often do I need a Jumpack? I would play a blood angel so at rank 5 I could use the wings of sanguinus...

I played other rpgs and I like the "mentalist" kind of character but sometimes they are very weak (like in rolemaster, i play a mentalist there and after 4 levels everybody is better than me in melee and my powers suck) I'd like to know if I have to expect this kind of mechanics here.

Please help!

ps: according to you is there a class or combo (chapter/class) clearly overpowered? Just curios.

Jump packs can be very handy and unless you are already starting characters at rank 5 it can take a while to get there so you might be waiting to the wings for a while.

Assualt marines get more talents around combat quicker / cheaper than a librarian but I do like my librarians damage output in combat with his force weapon.

Also if you go librarian watch out for shadow in the warp in fighting tyranids. I was far outshone by the assualt marine and the wolf scout with his stalker bolter as I couldn't get any powers off due to the penalty from the shadow.

Assault gets very good in melee quickly, the thing about the psyker is that he can be good in different ways thanks to his power, you'll never equal the assault in melee (not to mention his gear makes it easier on him), but your general psyker skills will give you an output that's different, but useful at times.

Oooh, I play as a Blood Angel Librarian!

Nah, Librarians are freaking awesome in this. Be sure to get Smite (best power by far). Librarians are really powerful and get even better. At Rank 5 you will be insane. Get Frenzy and the Mental Rage (two Blood Angel traits) which allows you to use Psychic Powers when in a Frenzy and you will wreck everything. I honestly think they're better than Assault Marines.

For a Blood Angels Librarian, get your Psy Level as high as possible of course. Then get Frenzy, Mental Rage, Furious Assault, and probably Battle Rage.

Psychic Powers: Might of the Ancients, Wings of Sanguinius, Smite, Shackle Soul, Veil of Time (in no particular order).

I am on the first mission with my Blood Angel Lib right now, haven't really gotten into much combat yet. Definitely will keep these in mind for powers to pick up, as I really had no idea when starting.
