I don't like the Vendetta. I know it's efficient and whatnot but at least IMO it's just pretty dull gameplay wise.

That's why I want to ask, how feasible an Elysian Droptroop army is without Vendeta support. I play in a semi-competitive environment, where people try to stay away from the all too cheesy units (tripple helldrake) but otherwise build optimized lists.

As long as you play Vultures & Valkyries you should be okay or do you refuse flyers in general?

I suppose it can be done. You just need to pack plenty of melta and plasma guns in your infantry units to make up for the loss in anti-tank and anti-MC. Perhaps you could include some drop sentinels to hurt vehicles as well.

It's honestly not *that* much of a problem. Between deep striking troops and valkyrie dedicated transports, Elysians can work around many of the typical issues that Vendettas are meant to address.

You've got a functional deployment strategy for your troops, so the only real loss is the lascannons. Meltas and plasmas can go a long way toward making up for that. Vultures can make a strong claim toward air superiority, too, because of how vector dancer lets them get at rear armor.

You might be paying a little more for your transport options than I'd like, but I don't think you'll be in that much trouble. Just keep in mind that your #1 concern elsewhere should be high strength firepower, however you can accomplish that.

I think the deep-striking troops are the coolest aspect of Elysians. In some of the lists that I've devised I use Elysian allies without any fliers at all, just using them for loads of MSU objective holders, suicide meltas, and flamer squads for clearing objectives.

I don't know about competitive play, but I think it can add much-needed reach to a foot guard list.

The key to being able to enjoy the game in real life and also be a member of this online community is to know where you draw the line. What someone online on the other side of the world that you've never met says should never deter you from taking a unit for being either weak or OP. The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things.

If i remember correctly, look in the IA4 book for the 99 elysians drop troop list. They don't use flyers and they are more deep strike army.

It is definitely possible. I would use the IA3ed2 list.

The HS has two rather good AA flyers in it.

If you don't like flyers you can more or less handle flyers with reserves shenanigans and a single fortification or allied hydra/SM AA tank.

If you don't need to worry about flyers then there is no problem as elysians are great with some beacons and drop sentinels to blitz the enemy turn 1.

BTW the best necron flying bakery in the world is a CCS x4 scanners+OOF in a firestorm redoubt. Let 1 flyer come on a turn and intercept with a ~50% chance to kill it. Just field a mass of HF drop sentinels and vultures for the rest. Suddenly the wraiths drop like flies to 3x vultures, the flyers often don't even get to shoot, and the warriors die en mass to HF.
