Not a necron player myself, but I know all their tricks. Yeah, I'd say they are pretty competitive

Necron warriors for a start are one of the best standard infantry units in the game. Reanimation protocols, decent toughness and Weapon skill, and the ability to glance the hell out of enemy armour - they all add up to make a great unit. Stuff like the Doomsday Ark is just a pie plate to the face in response to your opponent. Their flyers match up well too, with the Night Scythe being able to teleport Warriors and Immortals to the field, and the Doom Scythe being able to melt everything from above with it's death ray. From what I've heard Monoliths have weakened this edition, but if it was me, of still use a metal box with AV 14 all round and an unlimited transport capacity

All in all? Very decent army. I'm sure there's lots of things I haven't even mentioned . A new player should have little trouble getting to grips with them, with forgivable infantry choices and decent firepower.

G.A - Should've called myself Ghost Ark

They are a very competitive army, if not as good as they were before newdar and tau.

Can't run 20 wraiths only 18.

Anyways the best way to start a cron army is a battleforce and a annihilation/command barge kit

Why play Necrons? What is your question? Do you want to know why to play them or are they competitive?

Well you would play them, if you like the look of them. If you like their fluff, or their rules.

To play something just because it's competitive and nothing else, just makes me say, do you really have to play with plastic toy soldiers just to win? That should just be icing on the cake if they have good rules. Normally you should be playing because you like them for what ever reason first.

I like how someone called plastic toy soldiers dolls. So put it this way. Do you really need to win with Ken and Barbie?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Well I want to play neurons because I love the idea of a living wall of metal slowly crunching thorough any foe

Yes I know against overpowered tau and elder ill probably do meh but I just want to be respected as a player

My idea is lots of infantry 2 flyers probably doom scythes
And spamming resurrection orbs

Basically 1000 points infantry
1000 points vehicles I think

I guess my main question is
Can a relatively new player successfully field necrons? And be a threat to overpowered communists

Necrons are hard to mess up. As long as you don't take Flayed Ones then chances are your army's going to kick butt.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.
