Hi Dakka!

Getting into the Wolves, and have a question on drop pod tactics. I'm creating a drop pod heavy list, but would like to keep some flexibility. I think the below is legal, but just want Dakka confirmation. Also, is it a good idea?

What I want to do is take 10 man units of GH so I can get the second free special weapon.
I also want to take a 10 model unit of Wolf Guard (for obvious reasons).

So, I'm planning to attach a WGPL in TA, kitted to suit the role of the GH squad it is associated with. For a vehicle killer, the WGTA would have combi-melta/chainfist, for anti infantry maybe combi-flamer/wolf claw or Frost Blade. But, in TA, the WGPL take up 2 transport slots in the pod, so I'd have to combat squad the GH to get the WGPL to fit. That's ideal, cos then I can drop both the GH special weapons, plus the WGTA , in the pod.

From the codex, the WGPL move to their squad just before deployment so I think I can then choose just before deployment whether I:

a) Drop 10 GH
b) Drop 5 GH plus the WGPL (I'll deploy the other 5 on the board)
c) Drop the pod empty.

Is that correct?

You cannot combat squad Space Wolves unfortunately so that might mess things up if I am understanding your idea correctly...

You can“t combat squad wolves. A pack stays a pack.

Well c##@. That messes with the idea a lot!

Should have noticed that none of the squads had Combat Squads - it's always the thing that isn't there that gets missed. :(

Separate question then, If have a wolf guard pack of 5, can I detach 3 to GH squads and leave 2? Or is the minimum I can be left with 3?

You can detatch as many as you want. Even to the point of leaving just one guy in the original wolf guard unit. Or dispatch them all and have no wolf guard unit left.
