Some follow up reviews of the event. Overall I enjoyed my 5 games, but the field was very small, in part, to the obvious lack of advertising and the competing 32 man 3k game that had been scheduled the same day shied people away. In the end, about 3 days ahead of the event, they canceled the 3k event due to lack of interest, but it left the main game, the 1850gt style short handed competitor wise (9 people in total + 1 ringer). Last year, the even pulled in 35 people, so I am a bit amiss on the major change, but there was a bigger push for advertising in the previous years.
Beyond that the terrain, while there seemed big and blocky. One table had a piece that in total covered 25% or close to it by itself, others had similar issues, or a lack of 25% coverage/meaningful terrain. Several impassible pieces were setup in the middle of the boards, with 3 of the missions being relic, it made for interesting discussions.
Staff was overall friendly, but the vendor support for the event seemed miffed, and at least one major vendor packed up and left half way through the weekend due to poor location/sales.
Prizes overall were extremely good. Plaques for all of the major awards and best overall received a wrestling style belt.
I would think with a better push for advertising the event as a whole would have been even better. The location is good, and close to several hotels/places to eat with a reasonable atmosphere for playing.
