The plastic glue is gone, you now have the parts molten together. If you break them apart, you risk that something is badly deformed.
You are better of deliberately cutting the parts apart with a hobby knife, since that gives you the control. For thick joints, consider using a hobby saw. Make sure you use a proper hobby saw with a very thin cutting width. That way you are not missing a lot of material and can either glue it back together or patch it with putty/green stuff.
