Hey there,
I'm quite new to warhammer, so im trying to make a list as best i can with my limited knowledge hehe.
For now i was thinking of this list;
HQ,
230 Ahriman
Troops,
242 Tousand sons x9
247 Tousand sons x9 + melta bombs
247 Tousand sons x9 + melta bombs
Transport,
57 Rhino + extra armor + havoc launcher
57 Rhino + extra armor + havoc launcher
57 Rhino + extra armor + havoc launcher
Heavy,
115 Predator + lascannon sponsors
115 Predator + lascannon sponsors
130 Vindicator + siege shield
Total,
1497
Any tips or sugestions?
I've been thinking about having to trade in a vindi and autolas pred for a heldrake.. but am not sure if that would work out.
Any help would be much apreciated

I haven't found Rhinos to be worth it for 1kSons. Especially if you use Ahriman to get scouting for some of the units. They just pay so much for their AP3 shooting, you need to maximize shots. Each turn in a Rhino is lost shots. And you just don't have extra shooting to spare.
That said, taking pure 1kSons means you're taking a serious handicap from the get-go. Worth it if you love the fluff, but don't expect to win a lot of games against most foes.

Thanks for the feed back,
I was thinking about using the Rhino's to get my sons in range and for maneuverability, because of the slow walking speed.
And the triple havoc fire sounded quite nice hehe.

Thousand sons with their 4++ essentially move all over the table in cover no matter where they are. When I was using my thousand sons I would put them into a line and march them right up the field shooting until I got within optimal range then backed away to try to stay the inevitable cc that was coming.

Is this the current standard of how good a list is?????? How well it will stand up to helldrakes????

Hmm thank you,
So say if i pulled out the 3 rhino's.. i would save up 171 points which i could trade for a drake.
Would that be sufficiant or would i have to make changes in order to fit in a second drake in there.
As far as ive seen the only anti air options for me would be drakes or havocs, and i rather not take the latter. Automatically Appended Next Post: I think l will try pulling Rhino's out and count on Ahriman's infiltrate as cygnnus pointed out.
It would make room for atleast a single Heldrake

Everyone has a point about the Heldrakes. If you want one, I would drop the Vindicator (preds are best taken in pairs or not at all anyways, so they're fine how they are). You can also handle dropping a Rhino and a melta bomb..
I've been moving away from Heldrakes.. Of course, it depends upon the armies in your area.
This army is quite the Thousand Sons theme. My advice is to use it.. Sorry, but I really think at least two Rhinos are needed. Using them as charge blockers/walls is nice.

I really suggest you to remove the Rhino, it's useless for the TS. The only reason to use them is their huge amount of AP3 shots. But if you hide in a Rhino you can only fire 2 shots.
You don't even need that much mobility, actually you are far better from mid range than in cc, so really, don't see the point.
Even if you want to take a Rhino... NEVER take Extra Armour, wasted points. I also think that Havoc Launcher doesn't fit your list, you already have plenty of anti-infantry weapons.
The biggest problem I see with your list is that you will have troubles with objectives and long range armies (Tau, Eldar, Imperial Guard etc..). If you try to protect for example 2 objectives, you'll likely have 2 units of 250 points standing there... and doing nothing, because the enemy will be more than 24" away. The problem is that they will most likely have plenty of weapons to kill you from 30-48", so you'll be forced to leave your objectives and try to conquer the enemy's to win the game. But really, there are better options for an assault army than TS.
It also really depends on how much fluffy you want to be: if you prefer to be as competitive as possible, I'd say that 9 TS are a bit too much, 250 points are a lot of points at 1500pts, I'd limit their size to 7, with their good invuln save they already have enough durability. Otherwise stick to 9 that's their sacred number.
I'd take this as the bulk of your army:
Ahriman
7x Thousand Sons
7x Thousand Sons
Helldrake with Baleflamer
Helldrake with Baleflamer
Predator with Lascannon sponsons
Then you have other 423 points to play with based on how you'd love to play.
As an example, if you want some ideas, you could consider a DP of Tzeentch with Wings (for speed and durability) and 1-2 mastery levels or some chaos bikers with 2 meltaguns.
PS: If you don't like the idea of 2 helldrakes or if you think that they are a bit too much at 1500pts, then I suggest you to do not take any at all. To take down a single helldrake you just need a lucky pen shot. To take down 2.. well, either you have a good amount of specialised weaponry (unlikely at 1500pts) or you'll have to waste a lot of shots before taking down them both. Not to mention that the combined firepower of two of them can usually achieve what a single one can't in a single turn.

Don't take Helldrakes unless you want to. If you like them, go for it. If not, don't let the interwebz force you into taking one. Vindicators are good in numbers. I'd lose the rhinos and if you got the points, throw in something like a mauler/forge fiend. A mauler to charge in or a Forge to provide some long range firepower. Maybe take an obliterator or two, but model it like a sorcerer. Or a havoc squad like a squad of sorcerers. Go crazy, use your imagination.

Preach on Brother Historian! Anyone playing 1kSons ought to do it for the love of the army itself. Taking them with the goal of fielding a "competitive" list is just asking for trouble and heartache. No amount of Internet list building will change that basic fact.
