Hey y'all ! I'd like to hear your guys personal fluff about your custom chapter/ regiment/ characters. Just cuz I'm a fluff junky and I'm trying to make my own custom space marine chapter so also to help me brain storm. Thanks
I have my "Sisters of the Penitent Lady." A small but aggressive order that is charged mainly with protecting shrines and remain at a constant state of readiness. The current canoness rose through the ranks and became renowned for her leadership and fighting prowess while fighting the forces of Chaos during a failed invasion of one of their shrine worlds. The Canoness fought a squad of Khorne berserkers almost single handidly. (Actual game. My brother was controlling the SOB and I was playing Khorne. 2nd edition. She had a power sword in a narrow allyway. I could only get one zerker at a time to fight her. It was messy.) After her rise to hero status she became the canoness, the head war leader of the order. Canoness Helena. Currently they are on campaign against a Necron incursion onto a shrine world. (I did a battle report of the first battle.) A lesser known Sister Superior (sergeant) named Irena Axilla recently saved a small colony from a cultist uprising.

Still working on fleshing out this backstory a bit, but here goes...
Metatron, Scribe of Lorgar, Witness to the Dark Covenant, Daemon Prince of the Word Bearers "Brazen Fists" Cohort
Spoiler:
In his life as a mortal, Dietrich Meuller, later the Daemon Lord known as Metatron, was a simple historian given permission to chronicle the XVII legion. During his tenure following the Word Bearers in their conquests, he became a devout follower of the Word of Lorgar. After nearly a decade collecting the stories of the legion's greatest victories, he eventually fell in love with a young woman on the newly compliant world of Khur. All too eager to be shed of this human, Lord Kor Phaeron allowed him to settle in Monarchia, the capital city of Khur, and dismissed Dietrich from his duties as Historian to the 17th Cohort.
In his years in the Perfect City, Dietrich raised a large and prosperous family, and became a prominent religious philosopher, preaching the virtues of the God-Emperor of Mankind. For more then six decades, Deitrich watched as his family and his adopted world prospered. He was provided the best juvenat treatments Khur could provide, and saw several of his sons and grandsons go on to raise their own families, all pious followers of the Word. Yet that all came to end when the Ultramarines, at the behest of the Emperor, descended on Khur with murder in their hearts.
Making best speed to return home from a pilgrimage, Dietrich was nonetheless too late, and was just miles south of the Perfect City as the Emperors forces bombed his family, wife, and home into a glass wasteland...all as a lesson to his errant sons of the XVII. His heart shattered, Dietrich wandered through the ashes of his home looking for any trace of his loved ones. Days later, dehydrated and delirious, he was found by scouting parties of Word Bearers sent by Lorgar to find any last survivors.
When he came to in the hospital ward aboard one of the XVII legions ships, he was told what had happened to his world. Precious few had survived the Emperor's "lesson." Dietrich was even told that Lorgar himself was shamed by his own father and brother. it was then that bitterness and hate stole into Dietrich's heart. He immediately petitioned to be reassigned to the Word Bearers, and was immediately accepted by Chaplain Ixion, one of Erebus' inner circle, as his personal Remembrancer and counselor.
Over the next decades, Dietrich began to see the Great Lie the Emperor had inflicted on humanity, and followed the Word Bearers into the embrace of Chaos. When Ixion was slain in a boarding action on an Ork vessel, Dietrich assumed the position of spiritual leader the the cohort. Though not Astartes, he was given Lorgar's blessing, and continued to preach the New Word. Working closely with Erebus, he and his acolytes began converting Imperial Army divisions to Chaos.
By the time of the Heresy, Dietrich was well respected by Erebus and the Primarch himself, yet ever mistrusting, Kor Phaeron saw too it that Dietrich was reassigned as advisor to the Lodges of the Sons of Horus. Though angry that he had been sent away from his beloved legion, he would follow the orders of any of the XVII, as they were the chosen warriors of the True Powers.
During the Siege of Terra, Dietrich was aboard the Vengeful Spirit when the False-Emperor and his lackeys teleported aboard. Seeing his chance to avenge his family, he tried to rally the fleeing human crew to fight the intruders. None would listen however, and so alone, Dietrich set off towards the bridge. He never made it. Unseen by anyone without the ghost-sight, the bow-wave of the Emperors psychic fury killed scores of warriors and crew alike. Dietrich was slain without even getting within earshot of the Emperor.
The Gods were not blind to this. They saw a mortal brave and devout enough to not flee from such a foe, a foe that even Astartes fled before, and decided that Dietrich must be rewarded. Reforming his soul with a small iota of their own power, the Chaos Gods remade Dietrich. Assuming the name of an Angel of myth, he became Metatron. Vowing to never flee from an enemy, he forced his way through the Immaterium and rejoined the XVII. A crazed zealot, he now fights the Long War, working to tear down the Imperium of Man, and further the plans of the Gods. Yet still the specter of his death aboard Horus's ship haunts him, and he has vowed never to make so human a failing again...
Like I said, very rough draft, but you asked

I once wrote down a bit of fluff for a dark eldar kabal called the Neverborn which was made up of cloned dark eldar used as expendable shock troops but another more powerful kabal. This is a bit wordy, but here it is:
The Kabal of the Neverborn
The tale of the Neverborn begins as a story of slavery and persecution at the hands of a ruthless and uncaring master. Bred as a force of expendable shock troops, the Neverborn were in thrall to Archon Mordrain of the Broken Soul Kabal. Mordrain was loath to throw away the lives of his Trueborn warriors in unnecessary realspace raids against the prey species of the galaxy, reserving them for the choicest conflicts that held the most promise for glory and souls.
Thanks to the Broken Soul’s long standing association with the Haemonculi of the Coven of Eternal Agony, Mordrain was able to maintain a force that could be replenished at will in the Coven’s oubliettes beneath the Dark City.
Led by Khirameth, a disgraced Dracon from the Broken Soul, the Neverborn (as they came to be spitefully known amongst the denizens of the Dark City) were thrown into near suicidal conflicts across the galaxy at the whim of their distant overlord.
Khirameth was once a promising lieutenant in the ranks of the Broken Soul, his ascendance forever halted by a failed realspace raid against the kin of Craftworld Alainash, which not only made the Broken Soul look weak in the eyes of the other Kabals, but also earned them the wrath of the sinister Mandrakes when the raid failed to obtain the quantity of Eldar spirit stones bargained in return for the aid of the shadow creatures.
Mordrain originally had an inventive fate planned for his fallen lieutenant, perhaps as a guest of the wych cults or a future as a mindless beast at the hands of his Haemonculi allies, but, knowing of Khirameth’s pride and ambition to rule, decided that humiliation was a more fitting punishment.
Khirameth was chosen to lead the tank bred scum of the Neverborn into battle against the enemies of the Kabal. They were the first to be thrown into the most suicidal conflicts and the first to be chosen to satisfy the desire for pain of the Archon and his closest followers, especially if slaves of other races were in short supply.
As the centuries passed, Khirameth’s bitterness and hatred of his former Kabalite brethren grew and grew until his thoughts were consumed with nothing but vengeance. He bided his time, secretly gaining allies amongst the Hellion gangs and even swaying the Wych Cult of the Silent Blade to his cause. Disguising himself and his followers as members of the Broken Soul, Khirameth led raids against other, stronger Kabals, particularly those with a known enmity for Mordrain and his kin. These raids served the dual purpose of providing weapons for Khirameth’s rebellion and also inciting the wrath of the Kabals against his foe.
Khirameth’s strategy eventually paid off as the raids inspired the Kabals to pool their resources to bring down Mordrain and the Broken Soul. The streets of Low Commorragh ran red with the blood of both sides as the Kabals turned the city into a battleground. Thousands of warriors on both sides were cut down by blade and splinter fire as gangs of Hellions and Reavers soared above, lopping heads and limbs off their chosen victims with hellglaive and bladevane alike.
As the war intensified, entire districts of the Dark City were reduced to burnt out, corpse choked ruin. The Broken Soul could not hope to hold against the combined forces of the other Kabals and stronghold after stronghold fell. Eventually, the Kabals’ holdings were reduced to Mordrain’s heavily defended palace in Sorrow Fell. The last remaining Trueborn warriors of the Broken Soul gathered here to make their final stand, but even the elite of Mordrain’s followers was not enough to hold off the tide of vengeance that boiled out of the lower districts of the city. As the Archons of the other Kabals lead their assault against the Broken Soul’s final bastion, Khirameth and the Neverborn finally showed their hand.
Khirameth and a small force of his followers infiltrated the palace whilst the warring armies fought corridor by corridor and room by room for control. Disguised by reality bending shadow fields they bypassed the defences of the palace and struck at Mordrain as he languished in his throne room. Easily disabling the few bodyguards that could be spared from the defence of the palace, Khirameth strode forward and removed his helm before tossing it to the floor. As Mordrain gazed unbelievingly into the black eyes of his former lieutenant, Khirameth drove his blade straight through his enemies’ heart.
Khirameth decapitated his fallen foe and silently disappeared with his surviving followers. Once they had reached a safe distance, the vortex bombs that had been earlier placed by Khirameth’s spies within the Broken Soul detonated, drawing the entire palace and every living soul within into the warp. The remainder of the warring Kabals and their Archons, thinking that their quarry still remained inside the palace, were wiped out in one fell stroke.
On a pre-arranged signal from Khirameth, the remaining forces of the Neverborn surrounded the holdings of the warring Kabals and offered them an ultimatum: surrender or die. When they refused, the Kabalites were told of the deaths of their Archons. Knowing that, without an Archon to protect them, they would be at the mercy of the Dark City, every surviving member of the Kabals swore fealty to Khirameth and the Neverborn. With this one act, Khirameth became a new and deadly power within Commorragh.
Not trusting the subjugated Kabalites for even a moment, Khirameth had every one of them fitted with control chips by his new allies in the Coven of Eternal Agony, who, seeing the opportunity the Neverborn offered, extended the same terms they had previously enjoyed with Mordrain and the Broken Soul. These chips ensured the loyalty of his new servants by, in the event of any treachery, sending a signal to toxin canisters forcibly implanted under the Kabalite’s skin. These canisters would then inject corrosive toxins directly into the unfortunate Dark Eldar’s bloodstream, literally melting them from the inside out.
Khirameth’s first act as Archon of the newly founded Kabal of the Neverborn was to settle his score with the Eldar of Craftworld Alainash. Khirameth’s fleet ambushed and crippled one of the Craftworld’s cruisers and slaughtered the crew before using the vessel to infiltrate the interior of Alainash.
Gaining access to the Craftworld’s Infinity Circuit, Khirameth used Soul Traps taken from the Broken Soul armouries to forcibly abduct a large number of the fallen Eldar spirits from their eternal rest. These spirits would be used to secure the loyalty of the Mandrake kindred’s whom his former masters had failed so long ago.
Their primary mission complete, Khirameth’s followers gained access to Alainashs’ drive core and detonated explosives within, destabilising the Craftworld’s orbit around the sun it was currently using to recharge it’s solar sails. As the Craftworld began to pick up speed towards the sun’s core, the Neverborn returned to the landing pad and made good their escape upon their stolen vessel. As the Dark Eldar returned to their fleet, Alainash and all the Eldar that dwelled on her ploughed into the sun’s core and were incinerated.
As news of the Craftworld’s demise spread around Commorragh, Khirameth’s power and influence grew tenfold overnight. Eventually news of his exploits reached the ears of Asdrubael Vect himself. Impressed with Khirameth’s rise to power and his ambitious raid against the kin of Craftworld Alainash, Vect allowed Khirameth a place within his Royal Court. Since his ascension to advisor to the Supreme Overlord, Khirameth has cemented his powerbase amongst the Kabals by means of careful bargaining, but has also proved to be willing to gain influence by conquest and assassination when these methods prove necessary.
Khirameth continues to play the role of the dutiful servant, knowing that upon Vect’s eventual demise, he and his Kabal are poised to take the throne in the inevitable and bloody civil war that will follow.
Chaos Space Marines - Iron Warriors & Night Lords 7900pts
I'm currently brain storming a Heresy era Word Bearers army that has a non-Colchisian Dark Apostle, from the Word Bearers expansion period. He sacrifices the previous Dark Apostle in order to summon daemons that were banished from his home world, which will be represented on the table top as dragons for Heldrakes in a CSM army. The main theme I want to explore with them is the idea of reconciling multiple religious beliefs into one whole.
Also the Dark Apostle is going to get a Baron Samedi Vodoun face job, guaranteed.
I'm not sure if you are interested but I have some background for a Space Marine Chapter, possibly based off the Dark Angels. I kinda lost my love for them as soon as I saw Salamanders
The Warp Phoenixes were a Chapter created not long after the Horus Heresy. They are not a successor Chapter simply because it was made up of Veterans of the Heresy and new recruits from across the remaining Legions. They were created for just one function - to hunt down the Traitor Legions that escaped to the Eye Of Terror. The Veterans that made up the majority of the Chapter knew every Traitor Legion and their tactics inside out when they combined their experiences and previous cooperation together. Armed with this knowledge, and some of the best equipment the Imperium could provide, including special variants of Heresy era gear, they journeyed the stars in search. Soon they were rounding up Traitor Warbands as they struggled to cooperate with the ruinous powers and form a more coherent group once more. But it was a engagement with the Sons Of Horus (now the Black Legion) that spelt the end of the Chapter. Pursuing their Traitor brethren into the Warp itself, they lost contact with the Imperium. While the contact break was only for a few weeks, the results in the Warp were enough to throw them completely off course from their original mission. The Imperial messengers across the galaxy picked up various distress signals with no point of origin and with various signal strengths. Then, when the airwaves went silent for more than an entire century, the Imperium was forced to conclude that the Phoenixes were no more.
Or so they say....
Legends tell of a blaze of fury and conviction jumping from planet to planet on the Eastern Fringe. Nobody can confirm this, for the fierce battles that desend to the sub sectors are brief, and leave few clues to any following in the wake. The Imperial investigators assumed that these attacks might be the age old Necrons beginning to emerge once more, but Inquisitors sent to the Eastern Fringe report that the ghostly battlefields left behind show no signs of Necron activity... more like Imperial stages of warfare. It was only when Inquisitors discovered the Emblem of a blue and orange Phoenix left behind on a barren waste that things took a turn....
Now the hunters are being hunted, both by their traitor brothers and their loyal ones, but both are just chasing shadows. Nobody knows really what they are searching for, for no real records of the legendary chapter were kept after their dissapearance. But from the tallest of hives to the deepest of underground cities, citizens whisper of a divine light that travels from star to star, a coalition of holy angels, and that one day, in the Imperium's darkest hour, they will rise from the shadows to aid. They have no other duty but to protect the Emperor's holy light, and whether it is in the shadows or one day for all to see, they can, and will, perform this duty to the very end of time.

My eldar craftworld is called Ilyregorde. They were not the first craftworld to flee before the fall, but they were certainly not the last. As a result, they survived the fall with relatively few casualties (compared to other craftworlds) They strive to emulate Biel-Tan as Biel-tans ideals have taken strong root upon the craftworld. Unfortunatly, a string of defeats has left them ever more reliant on wraithbone constructs and fatalism has infected the remaining population.
Spoiler:
Apart from my spiritseer - he's loving life at the moment...he went into the bowels of the craftworld and came back with two wraithknights shouting "LOOK AT THESE!" "what are they" "They're wraithknights - we always had them...only we all forgot. But we've found them again now " "Who are you again?"
My Space Wolves are a company of wolves, led by Wolf Lord Ulaf Heimdall, which were requisitioned by an inquisitor to accompany him to a planet near the maelstrom in order to recover an artifact. The inquisitor was revealed to be possessed by a deamon and as he tried to escape, the wolves were forced to destroy their own ship to contain the spread of chaos. They managed to board a space hulk and now drift upon the capricious winds of fate. They met with another great company - the company of Bran Redmaw. They were greeted with suspicion of taint (through association) and the proud companies eventually came to blows, with Redmaw almost slaying Heimdall.
The company escaped and Heimdall was interred into one of the companies two dreadnoughts. They repainted their armour black as a sign of mourning of their break with the imperium and renamed themselves as the Night Wolves. Now they wander the imperium,Led by Lord Heimdall. They seek redemption through a glorious death in battle.
Spoiler:
That still needs fleshing out - for some reason that fluff puts me in mind of 'The Littlest Hobo'
My chaos marines were originally called the Ascentionists - they were almost religious in their devotion to the imperium. Pride was their downfall and when then fell they fell hard. They escaped to the Eye of Terror and were quickly subsumed into the 13th Black Crusade. They now fight for Abaddon with all the fervour they once showed the imperium
Spoiler:
There is a much longer version of this featuring Captain Weiderganger dying and Cheif Librarian Nachzehrer commiting suicide and the chapter being left leaderless - but I don't have a computer version of it with me.
Now they are known simply as the Horde.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

It's good to see that a lot of people have decent fluff for their armies and take the time to sit down and create a good back story, good going guys, it's all been good so far
Here's a watered down version of the origins of the Warped Lords.
We are not like our brothers, we do not battle for glory or reward, we do not wish to have our names cried out by weeping women or etched on pillars of some back water Chapel. We do not dream of glorious last stands against a superior foe or final brutal charge into enemy guns. We were not made for those; our story will not be fondly remembered, our history left unsung. We were created for one task. We are the Emperors Tallymen and he always collects his due.
Journal entry by Warp Stalkers Chapter Master. The Chapter were later declared Traitoris Majoris by the Inquisition after petition by Rogue Trader Enrdhardst whom the Warp Stalkers had been requisitioned by.
After Inquisition intervention and the dispatch of the Star Cleavers Chapter to bring the Warp Stalkers to account a battle was fought and the Warp Stalkers escaped into the Eye of Terror after the Star Cleavers fleet had been crippled. Warfather Santiago of the Star Cleavers has vowed revenge and wouldl hunt the Warp Stalkers until they have been wiped from the Imperium and the stain on the Cleavers records or war.
Landing on the Daemon world of Luciferum they encountered the Daemon Prince, and so called Cardinal of Lust, Blightvein. A Prince of great power aligned with the accursed power of Slaanesh. What happened on the planet is not known but what emerged later behind the Daemon Prince was a new warband of Chaos Space Marines known as the Warped Lords, using Luciferum as their base of operations.
Learning of the situation the Star Cleavers launch an attack on the Daemon World, but the Warped Lords have been expecting such retribution and a trap is set. Those of the Star Cleavers that are not killed in the battle switch sides and join the ranks of the Cardinal.
Warfather Santiago was the last to be defeated, bought before the Cardinal he was offered the opportunity to join in the worship of the Dark Prince or meet an ignoble death.
Raging and spitting defiance at the Cardinal, Blightvein merely smiled. Admiring his spirit he ordered a fate fitting for one of such passion.
Maimed beyond recognition and spirit eventually broken by torture the Warfarther was interred in to a dreadnought sarcophagus as a punishment for not embracing the Cardinals dark master as a constant reminder to those that deny Slaanesh, never to experience anything ever again. Even the joy of battle suppressed by dark sorcery and toxins.
Woe betide those that cross the Warped Lords and their Lord.

General Annoyance wrote: PredaKhaine - that is some fantastically exotic fluff! Flesh it out and I'd love to read it
Thanks
I'm still not happy with it tbh, I think its massively derivative with as much treacley grim dark ladled in as possible...
Well, I say just keep going and show it to us - only you can improve it but only we can suggest stuff
now that I can be bothered I shall share my Eldar fluff!
Spoiler:
The Shard Of Hope is a warhost located on the Eastern Fringe, extremely close to the Halo Stars where they supposedly originated from. The warhost's history is long, dating back since the fall. It is not a CraftWorld - more like part of one, for the home of these Eldar is a part of the great CraftWorld Alaitoc. During the fall a pyschic shockwave rolled across the galaxy, signalling the creation of She Who Thirsts. Billions of lives from both the Eldar and any other psychic race were lost in an instant, and the shockwave caused many others to perish or suffer horribly. CraftWorld Alaitoc was hit by this shockwave so hard that part of the CraftWorld was sheared off, and vanished into the webway gate the Eldar were passing through.
Now, 100 centuries later, the fragment of Alaitoc reappeared, but it was not empty. The Eldar on board that part of the ship during its separation had continued to live on, and a new generation of Eldar had emerged. Hidden away in the void for 10,000 years, their small vessel was not affected by warp storms or marauding enemies, for the void is empty, consisting of nothing but barren wastes and black skies.
With a new generation comes a new leader. Farseer Taldrith is in charge of the ship and it's warhost, and has guided them for nearly 2 centuries. Under her administration the Shard left the void and went into the galaxy at large. Taldrith's phenomenal skill as a seer of fates and a master fighter, combined with her elite warhost of aspect warriors and other witchpath walkers makes them an undeniable asset to the Eldar cause. They are willing to strike up the most dangerous of alliances and descend to the most hostile of warzones. Their goal? To find Alaitoc, and reunite the Eldar race once more.

Sounds pretty good. Wouldn't be out of place in the official fluff.
I'm wondering, what's the story behind their name? Who is the Penitent Lady?

can yall think of a way in which it makes sense word bearers would have joined up with a) fallen and b) typhus/plague marines and zombies? im kinda stumped.
I'm no expert, but perhaps there is a world they are both heading towards which they wish to plunge into total dissaray? Maybe they want to errect shrines in dedication to the dark gods?
PredaKhaine - thank you for the nice comment on my fluff
Imperial Guard Fluff next, shortly followed by Black Legion. I just need to find it....

They all got on the same bus?
The Fallen could quite easily be taking refuge from the DA in a chaos warband, I'd stick him with the word bearers as I think he'd more likely align with chaos undivided rather than nurgle. You could have the WB and the DG aligned as it suits their purposes - they each have different objectives, but they lie on the same path....for now.
The WB's could be trying to achieve an objective, they manage to call in a nearby chaos fleet (Typhus off out spreading Nurgle's Rot) Or my favourite - The WB's want to defeat Typhus as he's ruining their plans by turning all of their followers to nurgle rather than chaos undivided - to this end they ally with him with the intention to get his forces spread out more thinly so they can stab him in the back Word Bearer style. Except they've underestimated Typhus...

I particularly like your Night Wolves fluff Predakhaine. The idea of a bunch of space wolves who are seperate from the Imperium, but not renegades or Chaos marines is intriguing.
I think I need to develop my fluff for the Kabal of the Neverborn a bit more, even if they never get made into a table top army. What do you think of the first part of it?

I enjoyed reading it, it could be from the DE codex IMO
The neverborn is normally a term for deamons, but it fits nicely here too. I tried thinking of alternatives and I can't think of any that sound as good.
In the eldar fluff (one of the DE path books I think) an archon raids a craftworld to steal spirit stones and ends up having to face the Harlequins - they travel between craftworlds and Commorragh and seem to have adopted the role of policing the two. I think you should write some repercussions for your craftworld smashery - I'd like to see that

(I did a battle report of the first battle.) She was a Penitent Engine pilot that miraculously survived every battle and was eventually released and rose up to be a canoness. She split off (with eclisiarchy permission) from the Ebon Chalice and started a new order. She was declared a saint after she died.
This is her portrait from when she was young.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.
Thanks for the kind words. The idea that my story could have been in the DE codex is a huge compliment to me, as that is some of the best fluff written by GWIMO. No space marines carving names into the hearts of daemon primarchs for starters!
I picked neverborn as it sounds like a derogatory insult that the trueborn dark eldar would use to let them know exactly where they are in the pecking order.
Then, in true dark eldar style, they took ownership of the name and made it their own as a matter of pride.
I don't recall reading about an attack on a craftworld during path of the renegade or incubus. There was an attack on an exodite world but they obviously don't have spirit stones.
Part of me wasn't sure that Khirameth and co destroying an entire craftworld was wise in writing terms, especially with a small task force, even though they infiltrated the craftworld with their own ship.
After all, a craftworld is going to be heavily armed and guarded, even one like Iyanden which relies mainly on ghost warriors. I guess the idea of a small task force secretly getting aboard and creating such devastation seems unlikely in hindsight.
I mean, the Sons of Orar chapter needed a large amount of their fighting strength and huge numbers of guard reinforcements to even have a chance against Alaitoc in the Path of the Eldar series.
Saying that, the idea of the Harlequins poking around Khirameth's affairs to find out what happened is an intriguing concept. I don't think they would openly kill him as they don't normally take sides in disputes between the different Eldar kindreds (Craftworlders, Exodites, Commorraghns or Pirates) do they?
One idea I had for a follow story was, now that Khirameth has placated the Mandrakes, using them to assassinate one of this rivals. What do you think of that idea?
Chaos Space Marines - Iron Warriors & Night Lords 7900pts
Homeworld: Schrott: Death World Heavily Mechanized Experimental weapons. Primarily controlled by the Adeptus Mechanicus Command structure: Commander Martin Andrews, Magos DeSat, Lord Commisar Clemont, Captain James Adams (Section 9, under the command of the 91st). sub commanders underneath them.
warning, lots of pictures.
Spoiler:
Hailing from the barren and scrap metal covered planet of Schrott the powerful forces of the 91st are a mechanized nightmare for the enemies of the Imperium, commanding incredible weapons from ancient salvaged war machines like the Citadel of Vengeance (officially recognized as a Malcador Defender) to highly experimental weapons like the Quantum Singularity Tank (named Quantum Annihilation by its crew). Schrott was once a Vault world, established eons ago, long before the Heresy. A planet dedicated by the Adeptus Mechanicus to house untold numbers of experiments, controversial designs, Prototype war machines and more sequestered away for one reason or another in the continent spanning Vault. Many of years ago, Schrott was attacked by many of the factions of the 40k universe each for their own reason. Dark Mechanicus lead a massive war band to claim the Vault, Eldar sought to divert Chaos's attention from a nearby craft world, Ork just hear "Der was sum big dakka on dat planet and der was a fight" amoung others. The Imperium committed several chapters of Space marines and multiple regiments to defend the planet at the urging of the Mechanicus who deployed their own forces in hopes of defending the planet. At this time many of the Experiments were called for to do battle with the invaders but the war dragged on for hundreds of years and the amount of destruction caused by all sides reduced the planet to a barren ruin that soon was covered in thousands of meters of scrap metal from the war machines committed on all sides to the conflict. Eventually the Imperium won at great cost and Schrott was changed forever. Those who remained attempted to rebuild some semblance of a life from what little was left. Cities were established in crashed space craft that had fallen, towns hammered out of bitz and pieces of metal and more. Eventually it came to raise armed forces as the previous ones had been decimated. Using what they could the people of schrott put together an army wielding armor and weapons scavenged from the planets junkyard-like surface. When the first few prototype weapons were found admid the wreckage the Adeptus Mechanicus took great interest and took control of the military forces of Schrott whole sale.
The Mechanicus uses the 91st as a test bed for live combat tests of weapons and equipment, particularly experimental vehicles. The 91st also makes great use of salvaged equipment, cobbled together tanks and equipment pieced together from the scrap metal covering their homeworld or hammered together on the battlefield. Section 9 is a sub division of the 91st, consisting of the elite of the elite of the 91st soldiers. A cache of experimental powered Exo-suits, theorized to be early variations on Power armor, was discovered in a forgotten section of the Vault and with a training regimen that while it has thousands of applicants only has a 5% actually admitted into training and even then only 2% actually get to wear the suit with 70% dieing to the extreames they are put too. They work as a strike force alongside the 91st. While few in number they rival Space Marines in many ways (used as Space Marine allies.).
In battle the 91st brings forth the most terrifying weapons every imagined besides having a vast amount of armored forces to boot. Hover tanks, Energy Weapons of every kind, Sonic Weaponry, Baneblades and more all trundle toward the enemy guns blazing unleashing unimaginable firepower.
Salvaged vehicle examples: Citadel of Vengence. "Malcador Defender"
Toxin Tractor, modified from farm equipment during a campaign against Orks on an Agri World.
Section 9: Section 9 troopers, Consisting of the Mk1 Infantry Exo-suits (tac marines), Mk2 Heavy Assault Exo-suits (Termiantors), XLR-82 "Invader" "Land Raider" off shoot, 2nd ed Vindicator not shown here.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
Oh yes, it will be properly grimdarked you can be assured of that!
I am thinking mandrakes picking off isolated members of the Archon's bodyguards, ice frosting up the walls and the target seeing his own breath in front of his face just before they come under attack, that sort of thing.
Kinda like the closest 40K will get to a horror story basically!

Thank you guys so much for the ideas! i kinda really like the whole back stab spread thin word bearer style idea a lot and then typhus turned all their cultists into zombies in return. lol and the small unit of Fallen will be given refuge in the word bearers force(some have even changed their armour color as to make it harder to spot them in the crowd etc.!
looks like i gotta get writing tonight!!!
