Hi friends! I have a 1K DE army that I want to grow to 1500 pts, and eventually 1850 pts.

I ask for advice so I may budget out mini purchases in a responsible manner. I am also not opposed to using allies (grow two armies with one box!)

My current list:

The Poisoned Lovers - led by a male and female Archon whose love creates political discord amongst the Kabal elite; romantically, they die in each others arms in the middle of vicious close combats during a real space raid

HQ:
Archons x2 , identically kitted
- Venom blade, Haywire 'nades, Drugs, Shadow Field

Elites:
Three units of Trueborn x3 with blasters
Three identical Venoms in which the Trueborn ride
- Splinter Cannon, Night Shields
(The archons ride in the Venoms, sometimes together, sometimes separately)

Troops:
Two units of Kabalite Warriors x10 with splinter rifles
Two identical Radiers in which the Kabalites ride
- splinter racks, night shields, dark lances

Total: 916 pts

So far, I've been playing the list as follows:
- rush the Archon Venom(s) and a Raider up one side, use the splinter weapons to rip up (a) unit(s)
- send the Archons into CC to finish off the unit(s) and get pain token(s)
- with good dice, Blasterborn in Venoms can destroy HP2 and HP3 vehicles in a single shooting phase
- the other Venom(s) and Raider hang back (protected by Night Shields) and pick off enemy units that try to get objectives

I have a lack of scoring units, so I usually draw by getting 1 objective, linebreaker, and first blood (both I and the opponent get Slay the Warlord, so that cancels out). Kill point battles usually also end in draws for me.

My ideas: critiques, wisdom, and mathhammer welcome!
- The cheapest way to grow that I thought of is to give the Archons (a) webway portal(s) and add troops (Warriors or Wyches).
- I do think that Scourges, Reavers, and Hellions look super cool. I also think I can scratch build a Beastmaster pack using a Hellion and some RPG animal minis.
- I've always wanted an excuse to start some Eldar, as they and the DE are Battle Brothers.
- My wife owns some PINK space marines (three tactical squads and a Librarian); if we do a Desperate Alliance, we could:
--- play together; her marines would be a renegade chapter called The Passion Pit, who fight for universal love, with universal love going contrary to the Emperor's xenophobia
--- have an excuse to spend way too much money on the new Space Marine stuff that is coming out

Thanks!

Webway portals do not work well unless you are running Grotesques, Talos, or Cronos.

A couple of either flyer is pretty good although the upcoming Marine 'dex will likely have stuff to deal with flyers.

Beast packs are good for providing mobile cover, something the DE need.

Ravagers are solid all around.

But really what youneed are more Warriors and Raiders. You already have the basic build down just throw in a couple more units.

DE survive on mobility, being able to maneuver units to provide overwhelming firepower at the target opposing unit. The more options you have the more units will be available to deliver the support where you need it.

Inquisitor Lord Cuthbert hit the nail on the head, so Ill be parroting a lot of what he said.

Your AI is fairly solid; between 3 venoms and 2 kabbie gunboats you can chuck out a lot of poison dakka. Good for the poison theme.

Triple blasterborn is another solid choice, and if you want your con's here consider giving them blasters so they can contribute. Throwing a haywire grenade is fine at close, but a blaster at BS7 is awesome. Loses out on the extra CCW, but close combat is more of a secondary. This also allows you to toss the haywire nades.

The first thing I would add is some heavy support AKA ravagers. 1-2 with night shields is rarely a bad choice. If your feeling sporty a flier is nice as well, but beware the cost and how flimsy they are. Either flier needs a flickerfield.

For scaling up, another troop choice is a must. You know firsthand how flimsy DE troops are. Your only other option are wytches(no slot for the hamey or baron). Wytches make great suicide AT squads, 5 girls in a venom with haywire nades...that's it really. Allies help a lot by bringing strong scoring units in.

A beastpack or bikes are the way to go for fast attack. Both do well with a farseer on a bike leading them, if you want Eldar allies.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.
