One of the UKs wargaming pioneers has passed away.

Donald Featherstone helped shape what we see as tabletop wargaming today and was the inspiration for many. Indeed my first wargame books were by him.

I'm from the future. The future of space

He celebrated his 95th birthday earlier in the year and had been regularly attending both wargaming conventions and social events related to the unit he served with during WW2. It looks like he fell and was unable to recover from resulting complications.

A friend of mine has every book he ever wrote and will be bringing them all to our next club meeting.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

A great pity. I remeber reading one of his books in my school library when I was a kid. It was one of the resons I got into Wargaming.

95 is one hell of an age though. To my shame I actually had no idea he was still alive.

Somewhere in south-central England.

It's fair to say that Featherstone was one of the leading lights of wargames who helped establish the hobby in the 50s to 60s.

Some of his books are still in print.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
