Subject: Any benefits to ArchAngel and eThag?
|
 |
Enigmatic Sorcerer of Chaos

I just recently got back into Warmahordes (the last time I played was during MKII Beta) and I've been really eyeing the Archangel because of how beautiful the model is. However, I'm having trouble finding a place for it in my army.
I currently run an assassination eThag list with Typhon and Carniveans alongside the usual shepherds, forsaken, shredders... But where would the Arch Angel fit into the equation?
The only major thing I can see doing is buffing the Archangels armor and defense up as much as possible, but I'm not sure how much that will actually help it survive.
Any thoughts?

AA with eThags can get to ARM 22 vs. Ranged and Melee which is very solid, but not unkillable. It still suffers from low DEF, huge base issues and all eggs in one basket syndrome.
It does also benefit from Manifest Destiny which helps it do work in melee. Hiding eThags behind a huge base is good times and helps deliver him to smash things in melee being a P/S 18 himself.
If you're dead set on running the AA, he's a solid choice to do so. pThags is a good contender as well due to arm buffing in melee and feating it back.

Not necessarily dead set, but hopeful, since it's such a great model. Also, I haven't seen the gargantuan rules, but from what I read online, it sounded like the AA wouldn't benefit from eThag's feat due to a general gargantuan rule?
Thanks for the info, much appreciated!

Gargantuans can't advance outside of their activations, but there's nothing stopping them from getting the additional attack from his feat.
Thus you can get the bonus attack, it just requires being positioned beforehand to take advantage of it.

Well, I don't know if there are any advantages to it, but this thread just got me ideas of making a 50pt eThags + AA list and now I don't know what I should take to next weekends SR tournament... So thank you very much for that!

Good to know RuneGrey! If nothing else it will definitely be worth a try, and should be pretty fun just to have on the table.

Might be a while until I actually get to try it out (more so because I'm waiting for the locals to hit 50pts, rather than the wait time for me to get the model), but I'll definitely let you know.
Got another question though: Are you able to stack the same animus multiple times on a single model? I ask because I'm planning to try out the Succubus in this list, and if I could stack spiny growth on the AA, it could potentially make it WAY more survivable.
This is actually the list I was thinking...
eThag
Typhon
Carnivean
ArchAngel
2 Shredders
2 Shepherds
1 Forsaken
1 Succubus
Any thoughts on that?

Effects that share the same name don't stack.
Also a model / unit can only have a single animus active on them at any time.
So there are actually several rules that prohibit what you wan't to do.

Ouch, well good to know so I don't go around cheating!
So at the very most that AA is going to get +4 ARM from spiny growth and eThag spell?
I guess I'll at least be able to buff up multiple different Warbeasts then, but it seems like the AA is going to be very difficult to keep alive.

Beautiful model, great melee ability, ok ranged shooting (although short ranged) but lacks staying power. ARM 22 just isn't enough against many lists who can crack armor without issue, not to mention blessed weapons or/and purification. Huge bases don't like weapon master swarms much either :(

I guess it could somewhat work in this list due to the fact that I've been going assassination. Seems like every game I've played thus far is along the lines of "if this works, your caster is dead, if not, I'm dead."
Been a risky way to play, but its worked out thus far, and I think the AA will complement that play style quite well, especially with its awesome melee capabilities.

Ya know, I've just been loving Manifest Destiny with eThags feat. When I first started the game it was back in MKII beta when the whole eThag thing was completely broken. Not as good now, but I find that it still gets the job done.
I'm not sure how fond I am of shooting, but I do hear that the Ravagore is pretty awesome. I'm sure at some point I'll eventually get one, but since I already got 3 Carniveans and Typhon from back in beta, I'm kind of hard-pressed to get any more heavy warbeasts at the moment!

The Heavy kits are cheap enough and I magnetize them to swap between different lists.
The Ravagore has changed Legion fundamentally as a faction. I highly recommend them.

Sadly I got my Carniveans back when they were metal before any of the other variants had even been announced! I really wish I could get them in plastic though... I despise metal. However, do you know if our battlebox can make the Ravagore? It says Carnivean on it, but I wasn't sure if it had the parts to make the variants. I've also been considering buying the bits for the Proteus since mine are needing fixing anyways, and its rules are pretty interesting.

You might be able to order the heads for Ravagores online. I personally hate their base puppy dog hands, so my Ravagores have the Carni body and arms pointed back and a ravagore head. The battle box doesn't include other parts from what I've seen.
NOTE: Proteus is maligned in Legion. He's 11pts for mediocre rules. This doesn't mean he's unplayable, but I'd hesitate getting him early in your Legion career. If you decide to use him, I'd say try him out with pVayl as he's actually a decent Dark Sentinel target. Why is he mediocre? His animus is situational at best, pillow fisted for a heavy and costs 11 pts. His tentacles only drag at 6" which generally isn't far enough and you sacrifice all initials but one to do so. Fury 5 is good times, but his Mat 6 drags him down.

Ah, yeah that doesn't sound to great. I need to order quite a few bits (lots of missing spikes, and even a missing Carnivean head) so perhaps I'll look into making my 3rd one a Ravagore.
Many thanks for the info. Shame that the battlebox doesn't contain the parts for the alternate heavies, as I need some shredders too!

If there were bits missing from a box you purchased don't order them. PP will replace missing parts for free. http://privateerpress.com/support/customers

They weren't missing from the box. I had bought the whole army back in MKII beta (what was that... 3, 4 years ago? I dunno) and quit just before the game actually came out due to a disliking of the community in the area... so they were simply sitting in a box buried beneath tons and tons of Warhammer for years. When I took em back out and there was all sorts of stuff missing. Nothing wrong on there end! Just me not taking care of the models. I suppose it all ends up fine though, as it gave me further reason to strip them and now I'm probably just going to go ahead and repose, convert, and make em look a hell of a lot better than they were! Luckily the bits aren't expensive at all, and I'll probably be able to get all the cards I don't have at the same time too. The only downside I see is the ridiculous shipping costs, even for a couple dollars of bits.

I see.
For cards, you should be fine just getting the faction deck as it has all the cards that existed when Mk2 was released. It won't have stuff that was released after, but you shouldn't have anything like that if I understand correctly.
Its more cost effective than getting the individual cards, and you can preview rules of any models you don't have.

FYI: Ravagores are not availble in the Card Deck for legion. So if you're looking for them you'll have to order them direct from PP.
