Subject: Any Idea How To Make This Color Blue?

Hey Guys, I'm very new to modeling but when surfing through pics for ideas on my army I came across this shade of blue in the picture (specifically the forgefiend). All my attempts to recreate it have been failures. Anyone have any ideas? I've been using just citadel paints and would appreciate it if any advice comes with reference to their paint names (too new to really know anything else). Appreciate any and all tips!
Also wanna say thanks to the guy who made this awesome army!

Its not one shade, that will be a blend from a darker shade to a top shade, I'd guess from something like Macragge Blue up to Temple Guard (I think. Still not au fait with new names) but it isn't something you can achieve in one colour I'm afraid.
The pic looks a little enhanced too, but that could be good lighting against a dark backdrop.

Whichever color it is, 99.9% sure it's over a white base coat; the blue is too vibrant to be anything else.
I wouldn't say it is definitely a blended blue, though. From the picture and the lighting, a lot of what looks blended could also just be natural shadows from the way the light hits the model.
Do you have any other pictures?

Unfortunately not. This isn't my set or anyone I know, just something I came across in google image search.
If its a blend, I'd appreciate any tip on how to achieve it! Like I said I am very new to modeling and could use any tips.
Thank you Azreal for the tips, I'll be sure to look into it. Do you think it was based white as well? (only have the black spray right now, man does this hobby needle your wallet)

There are at least two colors blended over what looks to be a white base coat. And they are almost 100% definitely airbrushed

Almost definitely over white, and almost definitely airbrushed, the painters who could get a finish that smooth by hand are few and far between.

I don't think adding your negative comments on top of your already sour response was necessary. The OP just wanted to know what the colors were, not what you thought about them. Saturated colors are no more "juvenile" than implying certain shades of blue are childish.
OP- what did you search for that gave you that image? If you know where it came from you might be able to find out whom painted it and contact the painter themselves to find out what colors were used.

I agree that it looks like it is done over a white primer.
I think this color blend can be achieved with white and black primer with just one color of blue....perhaps Vallejo magic blue over top preferably airbrushed.

I just searched Alpha Legion in Google images, fairly easy to find. Don't think I'll be airbrushing anytime soon, but willing to attempt to hand paint it. Looks like I'm picking up some white primer this weekend, any other blue paints I should look into? Especially of the lighter ones? I already have Kantor Blue.
In terms of attempting this shade, should I paint in a pure dark blue coat first and then diluted lighter blue coat(s)? (If so, what lighter color do you recommend or should I mix the original dark blue with a pure white?) or should I try to mix for that color right off the bat? Automatically Appended Next Post: perhaps Vallejo magic blue
what would a citadel paint equivalent be?

That picture came from CMoN; the artists has a profile: http://www.coolminiornot.com/artist/jason?browseid=6606021
He appears somewhat active, having upload pictures relatively recently, so it might be worth it to drop him a PM to ask what colors and technique he used.
You could do it either way, really; start dark and highlight up to a your lightest color or the other way around. The best way would probably be start at the middle tone and glaze you shadows and highlights.

Rule number one on Daka is to be polite:
Rule 1: Be Polite
This seems obvious, however many folks can sometimes forget that common courtesy goes a long way to lending respect to both you and your opinions.
According the the OP of the post you linked, the power swords were made with VMA Insignia Blue which I can tell you from experience is a different shade of blue than the models in the original picture. Contacting the the artist is still the best way to find out the colors,

I'd say blending up from VGC Imperial blue (darkest point for the recesses) with VGC magic blue (for the mid tone) and vgc electric blue (for the high light) would probably do a job.
