I know this sounds like a stupid question but does spray paint melt away in plastic glue that has manged to fill recesses and details on a model??

I know this doesn't make much sense because the joints of the model are glued together with plastic glue, but I've just heard this somewhere and wandering if it was true.

I have a death mark with glue in his eye socket and was wandering if the spary paint would get rid of it.

No spray paint I have ever heard of has removed or affected plastic glue.

There are 2 types of plastic glue - plastic cement, which welds parts together by chemically melting and than resetting them, and CA superglue, which absorbs moisture and forms a bond. Since you're saying it got in the crevices, It's probably the latter. Normally I would say you could put it in the freezer and than pick at it - superglue is brittle and shatters when frozen easily - but for the part in question, I'd just replace it. I bet Deathmark heads are cheap as shoats on ebay.

Actual plastic glue melts the plastic together and disappears, leaving one plastic piece with a weaker point where two separate bits were in place before. It really doesn't matter what you spray on that, unless it eats plastic, it won't do anything to the bond.

Super glue bonds can be destroyed by chemicals, but you asked about plastic glue.

I have used both GW and Halfords spray primer on a variety of plastics bonded with plastic glue and have never experienced this.

As a precaution it's usually wise to make sure that the glued area is 100% dry before applying any paint to it.

Spray paint will stop plastic glue from working if you spray before gluing... you might have misinterpreted that as spray paint affecting the glue...

As others have pointed out, plastic glue does not really stay on a model (it affects a chemical change, melting the plastic).

So, if you have a model that appears to have a blob of glue in the eye socket, that is, a concave opening which is now filled with a substance, then perhaps there is some paint or super glue in it.

Super glue you can use "uncure" which chemically weakens the bonds, or put the model in the freezer fora while, then try to pry the glue chunk out.

They Missed the third type ..the Jell form that testors sends out now ..It has stuff other than plastic cement in it ..and so can fill in details..Simple green and LA's Awesome..both weaken the bond of the testors Gelglue..(which is plastic cement and whatever forms the Gel..which is not plastic cement) ..so try freezer and some kind of degreaser that dose not hurt the plastic of the model .. Like simple green LA's Awesome..
and since those prolly are not available locally ..try an orange oil or citrus oil based degreaser.(which both LA's Awesome and Simple green are) ..just test it on some sprue first to make sure it wont hurt the plastic..I Have used these to get rid of liquid green stuff ..on a used model i bought that was literally slathered in it ...and to weaken where someone used testors gel to excess
