Swift Swooping Hawk

Hi all,
still getting into 6th rules and wondering if we handled the following situation in our last game correctly. Imagine the following situation in a narrow corridor where D is a Daemon Prince and 1-8 are Space Marines. The Space Marines are spread out as far as possible (2") to avoid blast/template.
Now the Daemon Prince charges and gets into base contact with model 1. He can't choose to get into contact with e.g. 3 cause he is the initial charger and has to move in a direct line
The Demon Prince causes 5 wounds. Due to the wound assignment rules only 2 of them can be assigned, cause model 3 is not 2" within a model with base contact to the enemy. Marine 1 and 2 get removed.
Now the Space Marines get to do their pile in move. However, marine 3 is 6" away from the Daemon Prince and cannot get into base contact, which he would have to to continue cc. The close combat is ended, the marines have to roll for morale with a penalty of 2. And in the next turn the DP stands 6" away from the enemy ready to get shot at.
So basically the only way to avoid such situations is to move 1 inch away from marine 4 in the DP's movement phase so the closest enemy is in the mid?
Did I get all this right?

Not quite, there's no range limit on assigned wounds in CC so all five would get assigned killing Marines 1 through 5. But yes, as Marine 6's pile in move would be insufficient to get him engaged the combat ends immediately resulting in morale checks and consolidation, etc as appropriate.

Pg. 23 - Start of Initiative Step Pile in
and
Pg. 25 - Allocating Wounds
Basically all models can be assigned a wound. However, the marine in the back is too far to remain in combat, so the combat ends.

The wounds continue to be allocated to the squad members until the wound pool is either empty or all marines are killed.
Being engaged enables you to make attacks. When not engaged you can take wounds (and have to). You have to start the wound allocation with models that are in base contact.
So in this case the DP wouldve killed marine 1-5 (as they dont get a save against his attacks).

Allright, thanks a lot for clearing that up. Else assault would have been even more nerfed than is already.
