I'm currently working on a CSM army that I have collected through trades and second hand stuff. I like the idea of having a warband rather than one dedicated army because I've always wanted an army that isn't monotone. Currently the list has Death Guard, Iron Warriors, and Red Corsairs.

My question is, since Plague Marines are the most competitive troop choice (as well as my favorite), if I ran Red Corsairs using the regular CSM models as plague marines, who would be opposed and why? Since this is a subjective question I'm mostly looking for opinions. The way I represent these Red Corsairs dedication to Nurgle is by equipping many with plague knives, spots on their armor/weapons starting to rust, and some "I just ate too much Chipotle" faces. The unit champion is also a fully painted Plague Marine with a Red Corsair pauldron.

I'm not trying to be cheap or just use what I got because I have no aversion to buying more of those sweet FW Death Guard kits, I just want some variety. I plan on having Death Guard, Iron Warriors, Red Corsairs, my cultists are painted up like revolting citizens, and eventually some manner of Khornate units (maybe Skyrar's Dark Wolves cause that would be a cool kitbash).

Thanks

That way,then left

You'd have to make it pretty clear, because the way you describe them it'd make them look like nurgle-marked marines rather than "full-fledged" plague marines. Depends on the execution I guess.

So long as they have something that looks nurgle and you tell your opponent that they are plague marines it should be grand.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

It's fine as long as they're easily distinguishable from the non plague marines.

Paint them like corsairs but with a green shoulder pad. Or replace their head with a skull with some leftover meat chunks clinging on. Or cover their bases with maggots.

Something that can be seen from 5 feet away that's totally different from the rest of the army.

Thanks for the fast responses! (Since I'm bored at working slamming F5)

The only Red Corsairs I'm planning on using would be this one squad as the Plague Marines, so there shouldn't be any confusion of "These Red Corsairs are Chosen, these Red Corsairs are PM, these Red Corsairs are..." The other plague marines are Death Guard, so that should be a non issue. I typically make a copy of my list for my opponents anyways unless I'm doing something competitive.
