Hi all,

I'm looking to put together a very small, elite vanilla marine list as allies.

I'm looking at circa 1000 points and want to keep troops as a minimum. I'm getting the new 'dex on Wednesday so i am shooting in the dark a little with this....so please bear with me!

There are some units I really want to include:
Centurion Devs
Vanguard
Sternguard
Stalker/hunter

So, what would you include in the list?

What do you mean "include in the list"? in addition to this? There's going to be like no points left if you include the two troops and the HQ. Or do you mean what would the list look like?

1000 points is just a guide really, if it ends up being 1500 or even up to 2k, then (compared the the army they'll be allying with) it is still small!

I only have to take 1 troops as this would be an allies list, but am I right in thinking I can take 2 5man tactical squads to keep it uber cheap and fill out the matrix which would open up a second FOC to me?

Thoughts are:

1 HQ - LIBBY
0-1 Elites - STERNGUARD
1-2 Troops - 2x 5man Tactical Squad
0-1 Fast Attack - 3x Assault Centurions
0-1 Heavy Support - Stalker

Then, if I open up another slot
1 HQ - ?????
0-1 Elites - VANGUARD
1-2 Troops - 2x 5man Tactical Squad
0-1 Fast Attack - Storm Talon
0-1 Heavy Support - 3x Dev Centurions

This way, I get the new SM models I want to get, I fill out the holes in my current army....what do you think?

I always thought that you could only open up another Force Org by getting to the double force org at 2000, not by filling it out. However, lets assume you can, and build a rough list.

Libby ~ 65
2x 5 Man Tacs each w/ 15 point upgrade/ Weapon ~ 170
Centurions w/ Upgrade ~ 325
Stalker ~ 165
9x Man Sternguard w/ 4 Combi Weapons and Pod

Thats 998 Right now.

I picked up my copy of the Codex today. Having a look through, I thought about this, very elite and very expensive little force!

Chaplain with Jumpack and Grav pistol
Vanguard Squad - 6 marines (Relic blade, thunder hammer, 4x grav pistols)
Sternguard Squad - 6 marines (Power weapon, heavy flamer, 4x combi weapons)
Drop pod
3x Dev Centurions with Grav cannons / amps and missile launchers

In order to trim this down, I can take out 1 marine each from the Vanguard & Sternguard squads (1x combi and the thunder hammer) which free's up 66 points. Take off another grav pistol from somewhere and that give me 81 points - enough for a Stalker or hunter with a Storm bolter.

The idea is that the Chaplain and the Vanguard guys go warlord hunting, while the sternguard drop in front of something nasty like a wraitlord and deal with it. The centurions sit centre table and generally make a nuisance of themselves targeting anything with decent armour.

I should probably say that I've created this list to complement my Dark Angels army. That, and I want to paint them all up in Deathwatch colours and, due to the £15,50 cost of the upgrade sprue, don't want a lot of troops!
