Hi here is my idea for a 500 point army based off the new rules in the new codex but based of the old points because I don't know the new ones unfortunately.
Hopefully be able to equip the tactical squad better with the new points:

115 - Chaplain - Jump Pack

115 - Assault Squad - 2x Flamer, Meltabombs

170 - Tactical Squad - Flamer, Missile Launcher

100 - Scout Squad - 4x Sniper, ML, Camo Cloaks

500

The chaplain goes with the assault squad and with the new rules should get into shooting/assault range really quickly. The tactical squad holds a midfield objectives and the scouts a back objective.
As for 1000 points: another tactical squad and scout squad, ageis defence line with upgraded weapon (not sure which yet).

So what do you think? A good place to start off? Thanks

To be honest, now the new codex is here, all I can say with any certainty is that the above is a good start to an army. For expanding, I'd add at least one more tac squad, and get both tacs rhinos, as scouting rhinos are great. ADL is good if you see a lot of fliers, but maybe not as useful with the fast nature of the army. I'd also consider making the tac squads more specialised, maybe a flamer/HB and a Melta/MM for more dedicated rolls.

Your army comes in at 444pts according to the new dex so you got room for more troops or a transport or whatever

Great thanks, yes I would definitely upgrade the tactical squads, rhinos would be good eventually I think (when my painting gets better!)

Can the ageis defence line be manned by a five man devastator squad with the sarge on the weapon? Can he still use his signum? (Please correct me on this)

Then the scouts could use the defence line as cover or move out a bit. The devs would "hold the fort".

So at 1000:

Chaplain - JP
Assault Squad (10)

Tactical Squad - Rhino
Tactical Squad - Rhino

Scout Sniper Squad - ML
Scout Sniper Squad - ML

Devastator Squad
Ageis Defence Line

At 1000 points I'd start to bring something meched, you really only need 1 scout squad for holding objectives 2 is kinda overkill, I'd drop one and look into a thunder fire cannon, or even some type of dreadnought, other armies can make some pretty nasty lists with only 1000 points.

But everything I say is my own ideas and play style so take it with a light grain of salt. Space marines do have access to quite afew cheap vehicles that can do some good damage on the right target
