How do command squads get access to jump packs (yes this is a rhetorical question)? The Command squad entry in the new Space Marine codex does not list jump packs as an option, yet the picture on p178 with Captain Shrike clearly shows models of a command squad (they could be nothing else with the wargear modelled) with jump packs... Oversight or just inclusion of an 'illegal' and non-wysiwyg picture? Is yakface collecting faq/errata questions for things like this yet? Automatically Appended Next Post: NVM... I figured it out... Vanguard veterans....

Pretty sure those are Vanguard Vets. They can take special melee weapons as well.

The models pictured are Vanguard Veterans. Command Squads (and Honour Guards) in the vanilla Codex can't take jump packs.

On the same note though there is/was a way to have a Command Squad with Jump Packs.
From Imperial Armor 9, you could take Knight Captain Elam Courbray. He is a Captain who allows his Command Squad to take jump packs for a set number of points.

Thanks for the answer.
I'm still wondering why they list Shrike in the Command Squad Option Box AND tell you at shrikes entry that he can't be placed with models that don't have jump packs.

Because:
a) Shrike can join any unit during deployment and during the game.
b) just because you take a command squad doesn't mean that character has to join them.
c) Shrikes restriction is an allowance to join jump pack units before deployment so he can give them infiltrate.
