I've been rating pictures in the gallery, and adding tags when needed. My question is, is there a standard for tag names? Such as "Warhammer 40k", "Warhammer 40K", or "Warhammer 40000". If you search for "Warhammer 40k", will it bring up images tagged with "Warhammer 40K" and "Warhammer 40000"?
Another issue is shorthand for common phrases such as "WIP" for "Work In Progress". If I search for "WIP" will it bring up images tagged with "WIP" and "Work in Progress"?
Is there a page, or article listed with preferable tags? I hate the thought of going through several hundred images tagging them with "Warhammer 40k" if most people search for "Warhammer 40000" when looking for those images: basically cutting off those users from finding them. Or is it a moot point, being that there are so many images that ANY tags will do?
I've found this article here- http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Tagging_your_Gallery_Images It gives good directions for tagging, but there does not appear to be an article listing typical, suggested, or standard tags.

Plus other games- miniature and cardboard both.

Some of the tags you name will automatically be converted to the longer version by the gallery software, so there is some standardization that doesn't require end user input. For example, tagging an image "40k" or "Warhammer 40k" will show it as "Warhammer 40,000"; same for "WIP" and "Work In progress".

I did a sketch for someone that you can go ahead and use to fool around with this and see for yourself. Go ahead and add whatever of the above tags you want to see with, just delete the tags you added afterward.

So the searching question you asked later is moot, in that the pre-autocorrected tags don't technically exist as tags.

If you tag something '40k', it will turn up in searches for 'Warhammer 40k' 'Warhammer 40,000' and any other aliases. We automatically combine aliases and typos in a manual list so that more searches will return more valid results. Sometimes this goes wrong - merging common terms like daemon can cause a lot of false positives. Merging something like 'Chaplain - 40k' with '40k' would make every single '40k' image show up when someone searched for a chaplain too so we use it fairly sparingly these days.
