'lo thar

I have just got some of the new vets and made them BA. I have made them into THs, with an PA, two PF and a TH. They are a bit pricey but i swapped my Sanguinary guard out for them and although they are less survivable they hit much harder. My problem is that the death company that is supposed to cover them, there being 10 of them with jump packs, but they keep getting ignored and the vets are killed, even though the DC have the same, if not more, destructive capabilities against armour, costing even more. I just want tactic tips on how to stop them for dying after only 1 tank kill.

Any tips appreciated

Being as Blood Angel Vanguards are the only ones who can still assault off the deep strike now (and they deep strike better anyhow, thanks to descent of angels), they fill a totally different role from C:SM vanguard.

So in your case, what you have is a fearsome unit in that your opponent knows there is little he can do to stop the assault. Once they hit the table, assault and shred a tank, his fears have been confirmed and the veterans receive all the firepower he can muster because of it.

The trick is to keep your guys locked in CC during the opponent's turn. To do that you multi-charge when possible, preferably a small-to-medium sized unit plus a tank/vehicle. You'll do 2 things - by losing the bonus attack from charging, you're less likely to win combat by a huge margin and break/sweep the enemy away. As long as you can kill the target (the tank, right?) and stay locked in CC with the secondary target, you won't get shot up in your opponent's turn. Then, during his turn you finish off the unit you are locked with, and are free to jump/assault again on your next turn. Suddenly you've gone from killing 1 unit with your vanguards to 3 or more. Congratulations, and good luck.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Thanks for the advice. Just one more query though, how many guys should I use to do this? Apart from two Baals and the DC they are are my only CQC guys in the army, something I am saving up to fix. Should I have 5, 10 or somewhere in between guys?

Seven is usually a good number. Take 4 guys with BP/CCW, 2 with power weapons (lightning claws are nice), and 1 guy with a power fist or thunder hammer - he's the one you want engaging the tank along with maybe 1 guy using krak grenades.

However, VV add to the BA model count woes.
