Alrighty folks!

So I'm trying to decide what my chief ally will be for my Space Marines. For those of you who have been following my plog (insert raucous laughter here), I am currently in the process of building a retro Ultramarines battle company. That said, I'm wanting to know what to take as my chief ally when I decide to do such.

A few things to know: Firstly, the detachment will only be around 1000-1200 points. Second, it will probably see most of it's action in Apocalypse games. Finally, I'm also in the process of painting up some Armageddon Steel Legion, and these guys are awesome as they have always been. While it (the Steel Legion) is a full 2000 point army in its own right, I will also be including it and my warhound in most apocalypse games. This will give me a total of three armies, and I wouldn't mind having the option to ally the new detachment with my guard as well. I bring this up because I always like a fluffy reasoning behind my decisions.

Side Note: My main opponent is Ghazzy led orks!

I will start whatever gets voted on here! I like all of these choices, so it really comes down to what the Dakka Community says. You'll be able to see this idea take form from inception (here) to creation (my plog) and use (battle reports).

On to the choices!

#1 Black Templars: I like these guys a lot, and I always have. Back in the day I used to have a small BT army and I really enjoyed it. I love the fluff behind the crusader squads and the Emperors Champion. Also, Dedicated transport Land Raiders are always effin A Cotton!

#2 Crimson Fists: Super awesome chapter master? Check. Chapter fighting for it's very survival? Check. Loads of experienced veterans fighting for said chapter survival? Check! I love the back story behind these guys, and since reading Rynn's World, I've thought about having a small force of them. It would finally give me a reason to paint up that 25th anniversary marine too!

#3 Blood Angels: They are assaulty, and that's good (not competitive...don't care. I like it!). They have a pretty great Death Company Apoc formation, and that is also good. They have Ba'al Predators, and that is also also good! Huzzah! Also an army I've owned in a past life.

#4 Salamanders: I love the whole 'fight for humanity' thing. I'm an idealist myself, so I'm always getting into arguments about what should and should not be done to intervene on the behalf of those that can't protect themselves. (hint: I'm always willing to do so!) They will be getting some FW love soon, and that's pretty cool too. Gotta love a GW sanctioned primarch model!

#5 Other: I like the idea of lots of bikes and assaulty stuff, but I'm not a huge White Scars fan (don't take offense...Just not my cup o' tea). I wouldn't hate doing a white scars offshoot or something. Also, since I'm running Ultramarines and embracing every bit of the crazy OTT Roman Theme, I would also consider something like the Minotaurs that I could make Hellinisticly (sp?) themed. Go Team Sparta, Go!

#6 Sisters of Battle: The other flavor of power armor. Love the bada** nuns in space take. The crazy crazy women of the Adeptus Sororitas will always have a place in my heart, although I've never owned any of them before. Maybe now is the time?...

So there you go! Let me know what you think and why!

Imperial Fists!
I think they're the best looking when painted with battle damage. Bolter drill is very nice, but you can have a nice LC Dev squad with tank hunters thanks to their Seige Master chapter trait. I feel like 4 Tank Hunter LC shots will do you well in Apocalypse.

I think Imperial Fists will end up being the most well rounded. Bolter drill is solid. Tank Hunting Devastators will also be a big bonus too if you use Devastators (and I don't see why you wouldn't if you use the ImpFists).

Or Dropamanders with Stan. Master crafted everything!

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

Sisters of battle, they are so worth it, assuming you can find enough of them 2nd hand somewhere or much cheaper due to the high prices, but honestly sisters can be very good if you bring enough rending HB's to the table.

I recommend Black Templars. They have the ability to take a heavy weapon AND a special weapon in a 5 man Crusader Squad, which is great when you've got a lot of heavy armor around (since you're looking to play with your detachment mostly in Apoc games). The Crusader Squads are awesome for CC as you can have LRCs as dedicated transports with 10 Initiates, 5 Neophytes, and a Chaplain ready to ANNIHILATE whatever infantry unit has the misfortune of being in front of you. The models are awesome, They're actually quite good due to the rules update and points reduction, and now you can take whatever you want from the SM codex (minus libbies and non BT named Characters)!

Alrighty, so out of 21 total votes, the majority go to Sisters of Battle.

I guess I have some purchases to make and some research to do!
Thanks for the replies everyone!
