This seemed like the appropriate forum to post this but if its not then i apologize
i bought an ADL and decided that the quad gun was too "Imperial" for my Tau army so i converted it with burst cannons to just give it a more tau feel i would still use it as a quad gun but i wanted it to fit with my army. am i going to take heat and not be able to use it in tourneys?

That depends on how significant the changes are, but assuming that it's roughly the same size as the actual quad gun, I don't think you'd have any problems. It's pretty easy to point out / see that the gun attached to the ADL is a Quad Gun, especially if it's the same size.

Clear it with your TO.
For regular play who cares.
You should of used the quad Ion as it follows the same profile

I did this for my Eldar army and have never had a single issue with it in casual play or tourneys.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

One of my buddies converted an old metal dreadnought into an Eldar-variant quadgun.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Just an idle thought... isn't any Defense Line, Aegis or otherwise, too 'non-Tau' for Tau? The Tau combat doctrine doesn't allow for fortified defense positions to be constructed as they prefer a more fluid combat style. At several points in the codex, and more in other media, they highlight the fact that Tau will rather abandon a fortified position as they prefer to instead consolidate their numbers and hit back harder in the open field. It would make far more sense for them to have commandeered an enemies fortification position to use against them, but that would be even harder as you need to have several defense lines all done up in the design of the armies you might be facing.... Honestly though, no one should have a problem with 'orking up' any of the imperial fortification models to better fit another faction. It just makes the whole army look that much more beautiful, because there isn't such a stark, boring and gray building just plopped down in the middle of them all. As long as you use the stat line from the book still you should not have any real issues and if you do then it is not worth your time playing an opponent that gives you grief over it. After all, they are likely to argue over every little rule they can and that makes a slow and boring game.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

I've got a Fire Prism barrel grafted onto a Support weapon platform (D-Cannon body, I think) in use as an Eldar Icarus lascannon. Well, I say in use, it hasn't seen table yet, but it will soon enough. Everyone at my club knows about it and is cool with me using it as an Icarus. If anything I think it has a slightly larger silhouette than the standard issue Icarus...
