I'm building my ork list and I don't know which allies to take. I'm going to be running a bit of speed and a lot of troops. Thanks for your help!

Waaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Necrons, Tau and Imperial Guard can all bring long-ranged firepower, anti-air and anti-vehicle shooting, things ork are lacking. Tau are probably the best, because their HQs are not as useless as IG and not as expensive as Necrons, plus they have easy access to skyfire. I'd just by what you think looks most awesome though, it's not going to make that much of a difference

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Probably tau.

Riptides given an HBC and a Buffmander are pretty fething scary, though a bit expensive. Ion Accelerators can do something without the buffmander but has a chance to do nothing at all without markerlight support.

Broadsides with Missiles provide almost as much firepower as lootas but on a much more durable platform, and a bit more reliable. Twinlinked and hit on 4s, they land most of their shots vs the lootas....but lootas are still vastly cheaper and you gotta always factor in the "above average dice roll" with lootas anyway lol.

Both units can do the skyfire bit, though i usually say its not worth it. Crazy expensive, half of the Broadsides attacks are Str5 (and drones dont get skyfire), and has no use if said flier tries to take you out first. Interceptor is dirt cheap, gives you a small chance to take out the flier before it does any damage (12 S7 are nothing to shake a stick at, especially twinlinked), and works on non-fliers. Something outflanked or deepstriked nearby? Gak the feth outta it lol.

Riptides almost always have fusions (melta). That alone justifies skyfier AND interceptor, but i only do it if i have points or i only need to shave a FW or two to get it. With the crazy long range of the IA, its unlikely the flier will get close enough to anything important without allowing your melta to snag it if youre positioned correctly (my friend's helldrake knows this well lol)
I get interceptor regardless, as the overcharged IA obliterates anything on the ground that appeared behind the riptide lol. If i didnt Gets Hot! or scatter like crazy that is...
