My Orkish buddy is playing our local Tau gunline (the guy who wins more than the rest of us) in our Planetary Empires campaign. Ork is the last player Tau needs to play to get his win, and he's at 9/10 tiles required. His army is usually something like 2x firewarrior, 2x pathfinder, Hammerhead, 2x Riptide, Crisis suits with a bunch of shield drones & shadowsun or the support suit guy that gives them all the special rules at once, and I believe a bunch of gun drones.
Plan is this, for my buddy's Ork army:
HQ
Mad Dok Grotsnik (160)
Big Mek (KFF, Cybork; 95)
Troops
3x Ork Boyz (29xBoy, Nob w/ 'Eavy, Bosspole, Cybork, Big Choppa; 210)
3x Ork Boyz (29xBoy, Nob w/ 'Eavy, Cybork, Big Choppa; 205)
Merc (150 due to less tiles, and manufactorum)
DA Dreadnought (Twin-linked Autocannon, Multi-Melta; 115)
Drop Pod (35)
Plan is likely to put Mad Dok and KFF in the same mob to make him pay to drop cover, dropping 'em into one of the groups without Bosspole in the middle of the wall.
We're relatively sure he'll not bother paying for skyfire or interceptor since he won't expect any, but that he will bring a hammerhead (?) with large blasts, for which the Dreadnought is coming in. And even if he doesn't have the tank, he'll have a dreadnought in his business.
What do all of you in your wisdom think?
Anyone pulled something like this off before?

Seriously doubt that a Pure Green Tide List will work ..
Nothing to really and truly deal with the MC's or the Tanks
I would go with a Modified Tide like this..unless you have to take the Merc

I don't understand the whole Merc thing, but if your paying a 150pt tax to take a 115pt dread you really should reconsider.
As for the tide, putting 5pt cybork on 6pt boys is a terrible, terrible idea. You nearly double their price for a mere 5+ invuln. Thats not even double durability, let alone the double durability and double dakka you'd get from the same points of boys. And on top of that, a 5+ cover from a big mek... theres no point!
And lets not get started on the cyber-grots!
I'd say stick with KFF. Sure, he'll negate the 5+ sometimes, but thats cover that isn't being negated on something more valuable, like Lootas.
I'd cut Mad Dok and cybork from *everything*, and use those points on literally anything else in the codex - even Flash Gits are better value for money. The only reason to take it is fluff, and then your better off using Dread Mob with Cybork Slashas and Painboss
More specifically, run KFF Meks and 6x 30 man shoota blobs with 3 big shootas each. Back them up with three units of Lobbas hidden out of sight (snipe out pathfinders etc), and three units of 5-10 Lootas.

My bad; so merc is a bonus 150 pts from ANY 'dex that has to fit in your existing FOC. Alternately, you can just add the points to the 1500 list for moar orks.

I think 3x30 Shoota Boyz is a great start. He simply won' thave enough shots to kill enough orks, especially with the KFF. I'd give the Nobz PKs and Bosspoles. He doesn't have anything that can take them out in CC and they will eat his Riptide and Hammerhead for breakfast.
I'd drop everything else and fill the rest with Lootas.

6x30 Shoota Boyz(Nob, PK, Bosspole)
As many Lootas as you have in three equal groups.
Skyshield Landing Pad for the Lootas.
Has an answer for everything in his Codex and it is unlikely that he will put out enough shots to kill you before you get to combat.

Wouldnt a Trukk army with a supporting gunline of Lootas and Big Gunz be better then a green tide against a Tau gunline ? Maybe even a BW army ?
In any case I agree with the other coments, if you are sticking with a green tide it is always best to stick to your guns, and not borrow them
Bunch of Lootas and Big Gunz in the background will do wonders and win most of the games while the boyz provide the meatshield of the force that swarms the field

Why the hardcore love for Shoota boyz???
If they're shooting, that's another turn they're not running or charging, and that means it's also another turn the Tau are shooting. And we don't want the Tau to shoot. Please explain.
