Apotheosis Chapter 6
Rude Awakenings
Necrons vs. Eldar 1500 points
Mission: The Scouring
Initiative: Necrons
Searching the stars for unfathomably old technology was a trying business, as Overlord Xerxius pondered on his throne aboard his capital ship, knifing through the blackness of space. Ever impatient, Xerxius had urged his fleet back into the galaxy preceding the Tyranid swarm, lest there be nothing left of their ancient holdings, this tedious search for relics brought him no great excitement.
Nearby, the Cryptek Teletrix strode between the consoles manned by slaved Necrons. Ensuring all was well. He had served well in the matter of otherthrowing the previous overlord, and perhaps had been to eager to turn on his former master. Xerxius reminded himself again, despite his uses, that he was dangerous, and best kept closely watched.
His lack of attention proved costly, as a violent explosion rocked the ancient vessel, throwing the overlord unceremoniously onto the deck plating. As he stood to rise, another blast rocked it, and emergency power kicked on.
“STATUS REPORT!”
“I WANT THE HEADS OF WHOMEVER IS FIRING ON MY SHIP!”
“My lord, Eldar vessels are appearing from all over, they have severely damaged our main drives, and we are being pulled into the atmosphere!”

“Form the fleet in a defensive cordon, overlapping fields of fire to counter their speed and maneuverability.”
The fleet pulled together, weapons charged, and shields flared to life, as living metal began to knit itself back together.

“Incoming transmission my lord.”
“Display the damn thing already.” Said the overlord, beginning to regain his composure.
The display flashed cleanly to life, and the Overlord met the gaze of an Eldar spiritseer, a leader of their dying people.
“Necron, you have something I want. The spirit stone of our farseer. You will go planetside, alone, and hand it over to me, or you will all burn here in space.”
He pondered for a moment, realizing he was biding for time. “The attack damaged our power supply to our teleportation matrix, I will be on the planet in an hour. Xerxius out.”

“Teletrix, jam them, and send power fluxes through the systems to mask us teleporting troops to the field. We will meet them on the ground, and kill this arrogant upstart, just like her master. Then I will add her stone to my collection as well!”
“As you wish my lord.” Remarked the Cryptek, with a certain level of nonchalance that was disturbing.

Turn 1 Necrons
“Forward! Drive them before us like so much dust in the wind!” Screeches the overlord from his command barge, flying full speed ahead.
The Necron host advances as one, the faster troops and vehicles leaving behind the slower soldiers, who trot behind them, securing objectives and seeking cover.

Xerxius realizes his peril, eyeing a unit of Eldar Dark Reapers on top of the ruin before him. His barge accelerates flat-out to evade their fire, and the rest of the army opens fire, hails of gauss and lightning splashing against the ruins they sheltered behind. The result was a lone survivor huddling amongst the carnage.

On the far side of the Necron line, pot shots and an annihilation barge attacks a falcon, which only takes a single glance after its skilled pilot glides into cover behind a ruin.

The wraiths charge forward to keep pace with the command barge.

Eldar Turn 1
“Once betrayers! Always betrayers! No honor amongst the dead! Make them regret their actions! Attack!”
Eldar fly to and fro, chosing their lines of sight and targets carefully, as fire dragons disembark , and grav tanks line up their targets.

The Overlord barely has time to blink as the fire dragons’s melta weapons make short work of his barge, sending him unceremoniously tumbling to the ground.

On the far side of the formation, the damaged wave serpent jukes around cover, destroying the annihilation barge that damaged it in a fiery blast.

The lone dark reaper launches a salvo of missiles, glancing the ghost arc, which takes another glance from the wave serpent across from it.
The Eldar falcon fires indiscriminately into the wraiths, managing to hit one, however, it keeps on coming, oblivious to the damage.

Banshees prepare to charge the Necron overlord as he rises from the wreckage, grabbing his scythe in time to take TWO damaging rending wounds from their pistols. As they charge in, he offers challenge to the exarch, hoping to stall for time so the wraiths can save him from their hail of blows.

“So much chaff! Face me exarch, and test your metal against me!”
“You will be privileged to finally die at my feet Necron!”

As the challenge begins the two circle, and the Overlord’s trick runs its course as Mindshackle Scarabs reduce the exarch to a twitching mess, and his warscythe finishes the job. The remaining banshees steel themselves and remain to avenge their leader.

Necrons turn 2
Necrons continue to pound up the field, bringing their weapons into optimum range.
Xerxius, badly wounded, signals for help from the incoming wraith flight, whom converge between the fire dragons, and the banshees attacking him.

Another salvo of gauss and tesla fire flies out, the ghost arc, its inhabitants, and the fire of the two other ghost arcs manage to send the wave serpent full of wraithguard with the seer tumbling wrecked into the side of a building, they pile out, somewhat dazed for their trouble.

Immortals manage to cleanse the battlefield of dark reapers, and manage to whittle down the fire dragons.

The wraith flight multi-assaults, slamming into both the dragons, and the banshees, between them and the overlord, the banshees are largely scythed down, along with their fire dragon comrades. Both break and run, and the dragons find themselves swept in a tide of blades and metal. Xerxius retreats to the rear, while the wraiths spread out, preventing the nearby wraithguard from getting close enough to attack him.

“So long fools….BRING ME HER SPIRIT STONE! I DON’T CARE WHAT IT TAKES!” Orders the lucky retreating Overlord.

Eldar turn 2
“DIE YOU TRECHEROUS DOGS! ORDER THE FLEET TO ATTACK ONCE MORE!” Bellows the Spiritseer, enraged by the loss of elder life.
In short order, the sky once against blossoms with energy discharges and explosions.
The remaining wave serpent lines up a shot along with the falcon on the center annihilation barge, while the wraithguard prepare to attack the wraiths, seeing their master is just out of reach.

The eldar wave serpent opens up with a blistering hail of brightlance, lazer and suriken fire, leaving another annihilation barge a smoking, blasted wreck, the parts flying far and wide into the air, crushing a pair of immortals marching next to it, one of whom pulls itself together, and continues, pulling itself along the ground as its legs slowly re-attached.
The falcon attacks the ghost arc, penetrating its armor, and blowing off a gauss broadside array, leaving it badly damaged, crackling green electrical fire.
The wraithguard’s d-scythes unleash torrents of energy into the wraiths, slaying the damaged wraith, and a second nearby it due to good positioning. They brace for assault, priming their weapons once again.

Necrons turn 3
The Necron fliers Xerxius had scrambled were nowhere to be seen, likely caught up in the space battle. He himself ran to the ghost arc, ordering the warriors within out, and embarking on it himself for protection.
The warriors line up the falcon as a matter of course, along with the marching immortals.
The wraiths slowly size up their opponents, getting as close as possible before the assault.
Immortals and warriors manage to leave the hull of the flacon a blackened wreck amongst the ruins of the battlefield.
The remaining annihilation barge attacks the final wave serpent, managing to miss with the majority of its shots, the skillful crew avoiding any real damage.

The wraiths plow into the wraithguard through the waves of d-scythe fire, losing another of their number to the overwatch. Living metal and wraithbone collide, and whip coils snare it, as the wraiths tear into the wraithguard, whom hold in battle, swatting at their mechanical foes.

Eldar turn 3
The wave serpent drops off the dire avengers within into a ruin for cover, seeing the line is failing. It itself lines up the annihilation barge.
The dire avengers take up positions in the windows.

The wave serpent fires, lances missing cleanly on the barge, due to masterful piloting of the ever-living crew. The avengers cut down 5 immortals with suriken fire, 2 re-assemble themselves, as they about-face together, and level their weapons in reply.

The wraithguard and spirit seer begin to falter, seeing the Necrons securing orbital relays around the battlefield, narrowing their window for escape. The spiritseer decides enough is enough, and they flee for the webway portal, the wraiths too slow to catch them.

Necrons turn 4
The Annhilation Barge, along with most of the remaining necrons, open fire on the wave serpent, leaving it a blackened, useless ruin as it plows into the ground.
The remaining immortals rapid fire their gauss blasters into the dire avengers, removing the members caught out of cover, leaving ash on the walls of the ruin where they once stood.

The remaining elder forces quit the field in short order, attempting to make it back to their webway gates.

The Necrons spread out in patrols to try and catch them.

The sky had darkened, Elandil had long since dropped his weapon, unable to bear carrying it anymore, once the Necron fighters had arrived, his means of escape were destroyed in short order, it was all he could do to avoid capture.

He rounded the bend of a building slowly, checking his corners, just to see wraiths phase through the walls, and see warriors march down the streets, their leader in front. He sank to his knees in despair.
The Overlord had recovered from his damage, putting his warscythe under his chin, power crackling from it.
“Now…that was rather foolish…wasn’t it?”
“Bring them forward!”
Immortals shoved forward from the rear, the remaining six members of his squad, their armor damaged, and faces bloody.
Elandil spat defiantly at the Necron spittle covering the Lord’s expressionless face.
“You are cursed, we will never stop hunting your kind.”
“Good, I rather enjoy hunting your kind right back.”
The immortals put gauss rounds into the back of each dire avenger’s heads, and began prying their soulstones from their armor.
“I didn’t get your spiritseer’s like I wanted…but theirs will do nicely instead I suppose, along with those from the battle…”
“No….don’t…please.”
“You can go. Tell your spirit seer, I’m coming for her. And I have collateral…If she ever tries to destroy my ships again, she consigns all these souls to oblivion…heh heh heh.”
“Run you welp, run.”
Elandil didn’t look back, and ran until his legs collapsed from under him.

Necron victory!

First game against the new Eldar…those wave serpents do pack a punch indeed. First turn alone had me worried…However they kind of lacked staying power when I already rely on gauss to take down armor. I think next time I’d ditch the ghost arc, make sure the OL has a 3++, and grab more warriors.
Kudos gents, hope you enjoyed this installment.

Awesome report! Loved the style and the layout. Was really entertaining and it's nice to see a Necron list that isn't scythe and wraith spam. Well played.

Thanks KelCJ, I refuse to run scythespam. I've been meaning to write this report a while ago, this was about a week after the new eldar came out. Fun game with a buddy of mine.

Those aren't legal loadouts on the Falcon and Wave Serpents.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

I dont own the 'dex myself....I'm not exactly sure what they are then. Hrm. Ideas as to what they could be to pop av13 with some ease? I know they had lances on them....lance/suriken catapult?

Looking at the 'Dex the Wave Serpents seem fine, but the Falcon is certainly illegal. Whatever weapon it takes on the turret, it can't replace the Pulse Laser.

They should both be fixed now to read correctly

I too refuse to give into scythe spam. Partly because it's boring and way too netlist, but also because I think that our codex has other things that are strong besides scythe spam. I run AV13 lists for example. I find that it is really durable and hard to deal with for a lot of lists now-a-days. Especially against Wave Serpent spam. Unless they're packing a lot of bright lances, we simply don't care about Wave Serpents. Their mid-strength shooting is really going to struggle taking down our 3-4 hull point vehicles with nothing but glances.

Just remember, we are glancing them back.
This armor battle was decided by me being gusty with deployment, and praying he didn't steal the initiative

I think we have a slight edge in that since our basic weapons can glance them to death while theirs cannot. However, it is a good point as a few good and bad rolls on either side can make a huge difference since everybody is going for 5s and 6s.

Honestly, sometimes being aggressive is the best way to play crons due to our short range. It gimps us at times if we don't run scythe heavy lists (especially against DE... Ew nighshields and hammer and anvil deployment). But once again nicely played.

Yeah, Night Shields suck.
Its funny most lists don't really utilize gauss much, given their reliance on telsa for everything, Gauss seems to be a niche weapon now.
