I'm just getting back into Imperial Guard after a looooong hiatus. Don't know why I ever got rid of them. Anyway, I'm unfamiliar with what is competitive in 6th edition for Guard, but I'm debating between the two following lists (and yes, they are allowing Imperial Armour). I should also note that I'm using Steel Legion and don't have time for conversions, hence the grenade launchers and missile launchers.

List Number One
Company Command Squad
- 4 x Grenade Launchers
- Officer of the Fleet
- Chimera w/Multi-las and Hull Heavy Flamer

Infantry Platoon
- Command Squad w/4 x Grenade Launchers
- 2 x Squads w/Grenade Launcher, Missile Launcher
- 3 x Saber Weapons Platforms w/TL Lascannon

Infantry Platoon
- Command Squad w/4 x Grenade Launchers
- 2 x Squads w/Grenade Launcher, Missile Launcher

Hellhound w/Hull Heavy Flamer

Devil Dog w/Hull Heavy Flamer

Vendetta

Leman Russ Executioner w/Plasma Cannon Side Sponsons

Leman Russ Eradicator w/Plasma Cannon Side Sponsons

Field Artillery Battery w/3 x Quad Launchers

Aegis Defense Line w/Quadgun

List Number Two
Company Command Squad
- 4 x Grenade Launchers
- Officer of the Fleet
- Chimera w/Multi-laser and Hull Flamer

2 x Infantry Platoons
- Command Squad w/4 x Grenade Launchers
- 2 x Infantry Squads w/Grenade Launcher and Missile Launcher
- Saber Weapons battery w/TL Lascannon

Hellhound w/Hull Flamer

Devil Dog w/Hull Flamer

Vendetta

Leman Russ Executioner w/Plasma Cannon sponsons

Leman Russ Eradicator w/Plasma Cannon sponsons

Leman Russ Demolisher w/Plasma Cannon sponsons

Psyker Battle Squad w/8 x Psykers

As alternates, I can substitute in:
- 2 x Basilisks
- Tons more infantry
- A bunch more Chimeras
- One more Hellhound/Devil Dog/Banewolf, and bits to swap the two being fielded
- Bits to swap the LR Variants (two demolisher kits, one standard)

I suppose one of my underlying questions is how durable Hellhounds are in this edition? AV12/12/10 is immune to anything below S6 from the front/sides, but are most people loading up on S6/7 weapons to glance lighter vehicles to death? Would I be better off swapping out one in the second list so I can bring the Aegis Line into it?

I should also note that I'm likely going to face lots of Tau, Eldar, Necrons and possibly Orks, hence the inclusion of the LR Eradicator, but there's also bound to be some Marines, hence the plasma overload.

I would take a veterans list with the squads mounted in Chimeras or Vendettas you can then block line of sight to your side armour by turning the Chimeras to obscure it.

I try to use a lord commissar in a list like this as with the squads being further forward he can dish out damage in assault.

I would set the Vet Squads up like this:

GL x3
ML
Demolitions

Chimera

Thats 4 templates when they start shooting properly or 4 krak projectiles so even vehicles are vulnerable...

Demolitions also allows them to throw a demo charge 6" out of the top of the tank if they wish too giving them another big blast.

The Hellhounds would maybe be the better choice as their cannons can kill MeQ if i'm not mistaken (don't have codex to hand) but can also take down large blobs of infantry.

The Hellhounds will wound MEQ's on a 2+, but they're only AP4. The Devil Dogs have the meltacannon blasts (24" S8 AP1 Melta) and the Banewolf has a Template (Poison 2+ AP3).

I've thought about running them as vets, but not going with chimeras (given how easy they are to kill) and keeping the command squad for Bring it Down and Get Back in the Fight. I also have to take a platoon if I want the sabre batteries to take on fliers. Thanks for the input!

The Bane wolf to me sounds like the best of the three imo.

If you want a vet gunline take an Aegis Defence line, give all vet squads a heavy weapon and forward sentries.

In lists where I don't plan on moving a lot I take two CCS and then you have 4 orders with a 12" command radius...

If you take the Aegis then you can upgrade it with the Quad-gun meaning you can take on fliers!
