Hey guys,

First off I know little bout necrons, except having a copy of the codex and seeing some batreps.
Finally got my orks into a playable size and got my first few games last week (reasonable success considering I lost them all ) I have noticed and am aware of my/orks ranged anti-tank abilities and am planning on using necrons to assist my army (great conversion opportunities over tau). So my initial thoughts are/were:

To go with my speed freak force:
  • Overlord in command barrage
  • 2x 10 necron warriors in ghost arks
  • cryptek with solar pulse - possibly put into one of the GA's?

  • Roughly 700 points worth (so perhaps a little too much? Only wanted to compliment a 1000/1500 point ork force). My thoughts here being that I can use the solar pulse to assist my advancement into mid-range, then the GA's and warriors can be used along with the overload sweeping to deal with tanks etc.. While the GA's also add to the amount of vehicles in my list, hopefully giving the opponent to much to shoot at before my trukks and Battlewagons unload there crazy angry mobs

For my less mobile forces(foot slogging/biker lists:
  • Overlord - command barrage possibly?
  • 2x 5 warrior squads
  • 2x crypteks with eldrice lances and one solar pulse - both going into one of the warrior squads

  • this is the cheaper option around 400 points, provides me with 2 squads that I can use to hold objectives with the lances assisting with anti-tank, the overlord feels a little outa place though?

I thought about perhaps adding a little more to the second choice, such as a Doomsday ark? Thinking that I can magnetise/convert the ghost ark so that I can swap it between a doomsday ark and a transport and/or converting the command barrage to also act as an annialation barrage too when needed? I have a few other ideas I am toying with but if any more experienced players could comment i'd be very grateful Still a noob in the tactical department.

Im a ork player and I've never been a fan of taking allies. orks have always had problems with tanks that's just part of being a ork player. Best way I've found to take down tanks is running 2 battlewagons deffrollas with 5 meganobz in each along with big mek with kff. And using 2 squards of 2 deffkoptas with tl rl as sacrificial lambs drawing fire power away from the battlewagon. Of course moving the battlewagon flat out each turn. Filling in with 2 10 man squads of lootas behind 2 adl with lascannons. Worth the 35 points strength 9 ap2. Lots of boys to take objectives and you should do good against most armies. I'm 12 and 4 with this list. Mostly Marine players and IG players around here

I get what your saying and that is indeed my next step, I have 2 BW's under construction as we speak I have a question regarding rules too. If I place bikes in front of the BW's there exhaust cloud cover would count for the BW's too? As your shooting through it?

Could you also expand on why you dont take allies? tactical reason or just simply dislike the idea of not playing pure orks?

Im not saying allies are always bad but in my experiences with orks. Since they have no battle brothers. Its a point sink. Orks are best in large numbers. I always field 3 30 man squads of shoota boyz with nob pk bp. There only purpose is holding objectives now that most all games are objective based. So if you sink 700 points into a ally that's 90+ (215 points X 3) objective holders you lost for long range weapons

Now on the bike question I'm not 100% on it but I think it would depend on what's shooting at it. Line of sight. If the bikes block 25% or more then I know you get a cover save but other then that I would think you wouldn't get the cloud cover save. That's what the big mek is for 5 + cover save

Hmm, yeh I definitely need more bodies on the table. Yeh I was just thinking that with the bikes moving I could get a cover save of 4+ intead of the 5+ those trukks are damn easy to penetrate but suppose they are very cheap.

Yeah I sold off my trucks after the first game. Had one run into my squad and blow lol. That's why I love deffkoptas with tl rl only 45 points each and they scout. Run 2 or 3 in a squad and always run 2 squads. That always draws fire power away from my other guys for a round or two. If your lucky after scouting and moving you can normally get.a couple of shots off into the side armor of a tank or transport, strength 8 shots into a side armor is fun. Most are armor 11 so they should get one pen shot and hope the dice gods give you a 6, that's been the best way I've found to run orks
