The two of us usually play Fantasy, but I've got some hodgepodge IG laying around still and he's interested in nids. Neither of us wants to play a 'good' army, we do that enough in Fantasy. We just want a lot of models out on the table, and possibly give nearby 40k vets seizures when they see our terrible playing abilities.

That being said, it would be more fun if they were reasonably balanced with each other. What do you think some skeleton lists would look like with this theme in mind, probably at around 1k points? Bonus points for shenanigans.

Don't have my codices on me for point values but 10 veterans with 3 plasma rifles will run you 100 pts. You may only want to include valks as the only vehicles (drop ships).

One thing you could do is give the IG a set number of points and place them in the middle of the table. Then every turn add a unit of tyranids to the table (+1). So turn 1 put 3 units of gaunts, next turn add another squad of gaunts from reserve, next turn add 2 squads of gaunts from reserve, etc. - The IG will be killing boatloads of bugs so you can just recycle the dead into the new waves (you don't need to own 200+ models).

Just to see how long your SST (IG) can hold out.

That's a pretty fantastic idea, actually. Thanks!

I'm quite sad that nothing in the Tyranid codex adequately represents the bugs from SST. The Arachnids are massive creatures, dwarfing humans by a fair bit, yet they are fast and well armoured. They are far to big to be represented by guants and too fast to be represented as warriors, and to numerous to be monstrous creatures. Your best bet would be to use Raveners because they are fast, tough (Lots of wounds) and slaughter IG in melee. Shrikes could be flying bugs. Maybe you could play in large games a Tyrannofex with acid spray as a Tanker bug.

HQ could be either a Normal Prime (A bit to slow) or the Parasite of Mortex (He would work well in a fun list) and you could run the Doom as a brain bug (Works better then a bunch of Zoanthropes because there wasn't many brain bugs).

I might be over thinking the starship trooper analogy and you just want to play IG vs Bug Horde in endless waves, but if you want to recreate SST then your quite limited in units unless you make your own up :(
