So, my FLGS is having a 1k tourney this weekend, and I have a conundrum; do I take a Swarmstar list and only have 1 terv in such a shooty meta, or should I go with a flyrant and 2 tervs, limiting my elite and heavy choices, but giving me more scoring units?
my 2 concepts are as follows
C&C appreciated. As this will be my first tournament, I'm not expecting to win, but I would at least like to be competitive.

Current Campaign: Planetary conquest (where losing army gets 50pts extra next match) vs CSM (now at 600pts Nid vs 750pts CSM/Daemons)

Doom is helpful, and handy in low point games... The second list can have 1 tervigon as HQ, so I'd bunch the 2 units of termagents into 1 larger unit or save the 50pts... In my personal experience with low point games, if your tervigons are for troop spawning and synapse there is no great need for heaps of powers, FNP Catalyst on itself every turn does the job fine against most things, psychic assault can best be left for the flyrant and zoans, this will free some points for other things... Such as, I'd go doom in a pod over the hive guard or zoans, Hive guard and zoans are handy at popping tanks, but doom may kill majority of an army if the dice rolls not in your enemies favour and as dumb as they sound a DS MC with Assault 6 Str6 shots is handy if dropped in denial range of an objective or the rear of some hidden or hard to reach units... Maybe you could get Hive Commander for the flyrant, ensuring +1 reserves for your doom and the ability to outflank the termagents, flanking manouvres in certain deployments like vanguard could give you an edge, even having the tervigon come in the side may be handy if he's facing off 4 splinter cannon venoms in the first turn and your not in a rush to run out of spawn luck... A few ideas, but overall I think the swarmlord can be an expensive gamble, he can take a few hits with his unit, but face DE venom spam, a flyer spam list like crons or GK's and your toast...

Second list looks more reliable. First list looks more entertaining.
Not sure if I'd take a full swarmstar at 1000 points. At that point level you could probably drop the prime, and your opponents would still have a hell of a time killing it.

Well which would you rather drop? I know at this point value I'll be seeing at least 1 drake, and probably a LRC. The zoans are also great with the telepathy primaris, as it is just a targeted version of the DoM aura. I need something to deal with AV13/14, which is why I have the Guard. Though I also have several MCs... hmm... if I drop the Terv into the HQ, cut the guard and terms, I can free up the 130 pts easily. I know Intercept is a problem though.

I assume you mean Spod a dakkafex? I have one, but I'd have to get it painted before tomorrow... never can have too much MC dakka.
A few ideas, but overall I think the swarmlord can be an expensive gamble, he can take a few hits with his unit, but face DE venom spam, a flyer spam list like crons or GK's and your toast...
The flyers hurt, which is why I typically only run my swarmstar in fun games, where I know I'm not facing TFG or a WAAC.
How about this list then (kinda a hybrid of the 2)
This leaves 20 pts open, which I can throw 4 more terms, or if I go down to 2x powers on each terv, I free up 50pts... where I could go with CC on the tervs, or maybe a biovore? not sure how many SM I'll be seeing
